Caneel in Sept
Caneel is offering all-inclusive rates for the month of September. We are considering this for a "no-kids" trip/long weekend. I rarely travel without my kids, but upon walking around Caneel's grounds during our most recent trip, I fell in love with the place and have no desire to experience it with children along. Anyway, my only thought would be that if all meals are included, just how good are the restaurants there? I've heard great things about the buffet, but what about other meals? Would I feel obligated to eat all meals at Caneel and forego a chance to eat at Stone Terrace or Asolare, knowing that we'd probably not check out those restaurants on a trip while our kids are along. Thoughts...opinions?
Martini Girl,
We stayed at Caneel last September...it was wonderful.
At the time they had a very reasonable rate for their Rosewood Escape B&B package. I can't seem to find the same deal for our 2009 Sept. trip. I did read a post on another forum from a guy who got that same plan for Nov. 2008. But when I went to reservations and put in our dates...the B&B package didn't come up.
We enjoyed their lovely buffet breakfast each morning, taking in the gorgeous turquois water and the gentle breezes....sigh. We liked having the flexibility to dine at our favorite island restaurants. We were upgraded to a room on Scott beach.
Liamsaunt is our resident Caneel Bay specialist...I'm sure she can better answer your specific questions regarding the all inclusive and Caneel's famous buffet ( which they did not offer during our stay).
Good luck....mia

I would follow the advice already given here and try and get the rate that has the full breakfast included. The breakfast is really nice, lots of choices, both healthy and not so healthy. They have an awesome selection of tropical juices too.
I think it is worth it to go in to town for dinner--the taxi is only $5 per person, less than 10 minutes, and there are so many terrific choices in town. In September, you might not have a choice of where to eat at Caneel--they'll probably only have one restaurant open each night, alternating between Turtle Bay and the Equator (plus the casual beach bar).
I think you will get the best value for your money by booking the room rate with full breakfast as opposed to the all-inclusive. If you are looking on their website for the rates, make sure you go all the way through them, to the end! For last October's stay, we found a less expensive rate that came with identical amenities to the first listings that came up, but we had to go through about five pages of offerings to find it.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
