Jost Van Dyke day sail

Post by decosuz »

My family of four is booked on a day sail to Jost Van Dyke with Calypso in June. Has anyone sailed with them? We decided to go with them for a couple of reasons. First, my husband really wanted to do a sailing trip, not a power boat. Secondly, they are a larger vessel, holding 15+. Our summer vacations are usually with large extended family groups of 14 or more. (We had 29 people in one huge house on the Outer Banks two years ago!) I thought with a week of just the four us, we might need a little socialization. Does anyone see any flaws in my plan? Our kids are 9(girl) and 13(boy), do you think they would enjoy a full day sail, or do you think a full day is too much for first timers? Any info on Calypso? Thanks in advance for your help.

Have sailed with them the last three years. They are super nice and you will be treated well.

Should have added, that I would suggest the full day.

My kids love day sails. It's a serious trippy experience for them.

You'll have a lot of fun.

My husband and I sailed to Jost with Calypso last year and plan on doing the same on our next trip. Great boat (I also prefer a sailboat to a power boat), nice/knowledgeable people. It was our funnest day of the trip, for sure.

It was also a very good chance for us to socialize with other people, as we're mostly content to keep to ourselves while on vacation. I believe there was around 16 people the day we went, including staff. And there was still PLENTY of room on the boat.

Thanks for all the great info. It looks like I made the right decision for us. I tend to overanalyze and agonize over every decision when trip planning, like it's a test and there is only one right answer. Someday I'll learn that it's all good when you are away from home enjoying time with those who matter most. Thanks again, guys!
