What do you wear UNDER your coverup?
I was looking at some websites for day sails the other day when my 14 year old came in the room. Most photos of the happy customers were of bikini clad women. My daughter's comment--"You'd better start working out if you're going to have to wear a bikini!" I assured her that there would be plenty of other women on St. John over the age of 40 not wearing bikinis. There will be. . . won't there? 
)Had to laugh. On my last trip I stopped at a little shop near the ferry in Red Hook & bought a bikini top to wear with my tankini bottom. A few pics were taken and one daughter (27) said Wow that was cool. The other (23) said..what were you thinking...At 54, I though I looked pretty good. (from far away) Hubby said it was fine & who else cared. I had fun! Live it up!
Hopefully I'll have something! I just had to return a tankini I ordered from Speedo because it didn't fit right - ugh! In a panic, I ordered another tankini (LL Bean this time) which I am hoping to have better luck with. I'm against the stops for time, so if this one doesn't work, I will only have my Speedo bikini (which I love). I was really hoping to have the luxury of two suits I like for this trip
Store are gearing up for the bathing suit season. Good luck to all the gals looking. Men have NO idea what a pain it is to find just the right suit. One that's comfortable.
Here's a tip. Wear a bikini and get a little tank top over it. You can feel comfortable if you're in the water and then if you want to lay down, just take off that tank top and get your belly tan

But seriously, if there's a Target store near you, go now, they have ALOT of bathing suits and most of them are mix and match. I was able to get 2.

Mostly wear what makes you feel most comfortable. Other than your significant other, who cares what any one else thinks, not that they're looking any way. If you feel good, that's what counts.
I used to wear a bikini. Then I took 2 trips while pregnant (very, 7 1/2 months) and I just couldn't bring myself to wear one of those awful mu-mu pregnancy suits, so still wore the bikini. Did I get some weird looks? Probably, but I didn't notice. I was comfortable and hubby thought the bikini-belly was cute. Now that I have 2 kids, this flabby belly will probably never see a bikini again. Why? Not because I care what anyone else thinks, but it makes me uncomfortable. Tankini for me now.

My daughters are insistent about their bathing suits and I'm shopping right now. Sweet Christine/NoTanLines wears tan-through suits. My 10 year old is a one-piece plus swim shirt (awkward stage). My 16 year old prefers one pieces.
So, this single Dad is trying to figure out what will work for these girls. I think they both get blue Speedo's and if they don't like them they can show me what they really want.
Any hints on getting body-shy girls to let me measure them? Or should I just buy one of everything in their size range and have them communicate non-verbally regarding fit? In 2004 I found out my then 14 year old did not like her bathing suit when she took it out of her bag and left it at home. I found this out on our fist day at Maho Campground.

Rick, if they don't want you to do it, why don't your daughters measure each other? There's no point in buying a bunch of stuff they won't wear--you can't return bathing suits at most places.
I buy all of my bathing suits from Lands End. I honestly don't care what I look like--I just want something that is going to stay in place and not bother me while I am snorkeling. I won't let myself get tan at all, so that's not an issue.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I've always worn a one piece. Of course I do wear a rash guard most of the time. Does that count as a cover up?
Come to think of it, I haven't seen many two piece swim suits for guys...
On a more serious note, my wife says she will only wear Tankinis because of the "bathroom" factor.......nuf said.....
