On a lighter note, What do you wear over your bathing suit?

Just thinking about our May trip and the fact that I picked up two bathing suits on a visit to my sister in Florida. Horay!!! I am sure you ladies will agree with me that finding a bathing suit that you feel comfortable in is a nightmare. Well now that I have the suits, I am thinking about what to wear over them when we go to Skinnys or Aqua Bistro for lunch. I usually wear a pareo and a tee shirt which is O.K. but was thinking of something easier, just to throw over my suit that would look presentable. I prefer a long top as my legs have some of those varicose veins that I cant stand. You young girls probably don't know what I am talking about. Would appreciate suggestions.

Great question Susan! I have been thinking the same thing. I have a few of those sleeveless "dress-like" coverups (fringe on bottom) that I wear to/from the beach, but the underarm sections are cut low & the bathing suit shows through; didn't think that was gonna work. Then again, maybe it does.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts/suggestions too!

We must be about the same age!! I wore a sleeveless gauzy type sundress over my suit most of the time. I love the pareo look though! Also had a terry cloth cover up/dress from Quacker Factory on QVC. One of our friends bought a great sundress/cover up at Sloop Jones while we were there in December.

Good question! I usually wear a little sleeveless dress-like coverup. Occasionally I might just wear a tank top or a t-shirt and shorts.

I have this coffee mug that reads: "Things could be worse - we could be trying on swimsuits". I confess that I can't take the fitting room ordeal any longer. I now am an online shopper who tries on in much better lighting and returns what doesn't work. A trip to the post office beats a trip to the fitting room, for me.

I like pareos with a tank or tee but I also like long tank dresses (that come to mid-calf) - have one in gauze and one in lightweight jersey. The jersey one is black and, by adding one of those great metal belts from Chico's and some fancier flips, it can double as an islandie-dressy-dinner outfit. A friend showed me how to tie up a pareo long end to long end to look like a cocoon jacket which comes in handy if there is a/c in the restaurant or the breeze is too much. I bought my first pareo on STJ at Mongoose about 12 years ago and, after many, many launderings it still looks like new. Wish I could find another like that one but it is some kind of gauzy lightweight cotton and I have yet to find the same material in another pareo.

My pareo is also about 12 years old also, washer and dryer and it's perfect. I also picked up little wooden or plastic thing that has two holes in it. You put one side of the pareo in one and the other side in the other hole and pull it as tight as you want. It holds the pareo in place. Great, and avoids having that "knot" on your hip which adds nothing.

I was just shopping for cover-ups to go from the beach to lunch/happy hour...I found some cute little terry cloth dresses/cover-ups...I bought one of every color they had! They will be perfect to go to the beach...to lunch...to happy hour or what-ever! flip flops and my Red Sox cap and I'm good to go!

I have a cotton jersey skirt with a string tie waist from, I think, Lands End that I throw over my suit. It comes to just above my knees. I usually just wear a t-shirt and a baseball cap with it.

I'm going to look into getting a pareo, though. It would probably look nicer.

Old Navy always has nice, cheap ones that come to about the knees. I have a white one and a black one from last summer that I love. They are like long hoodies, but neat, not sloppy.

Nylon shorts and tank tops dry fast and if you wear them in town they look like you are appropriately dressed. I also have sleeveless dress-like lightweight cover ups that dry fast too. You can take those and swimsuits and you are pretty much set.

Nice hints. I need to pickup bathing suits and cover ups for the daughters for our trip in 3 weeks. As single Dad, I find buying bathing suits the second most difficult thing to pickout.
