Help me decide

Post by IslandAddict »

Staying at Gallows with no car (this is a do nothing but eat, sleep :wink: and lay in the sun vacation for us). Need to pick 5 dinner restaurants. I've read every review and forum post I can find and it has only made a decision harder. So, give me your top three Cruz Bay (or short cab ride) area restaurants if money was not a factor.

Thanks guys for all the great advice, keep it coming.

1. La Tapa, definitely!
2. Zozos (right at Gallows!)
3. Stone Terrace

La Tapa and Stone Terrace are easily walkable from Gallows--5 minutes, maybe.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

1. Asolare - 100 times over. This is a great restaurant and the only one from our weeklong St. John trip that I really care about returning to.

2. Zozo's - good, but not worth as much hype as Asolare. Great views.

3. Rhumbline's - very spicy, but I liked my pad thai quite a bit. Unique courtyard, very cozy.

Based on personal preference and reviews here:

1. Asolare - only restaurant we've returned to each trip.(short cab ride)
2. Caneel Seafood buffet - haven't been there but the reviews (and photos) have been very positive(short cab ride)
3. Cafe Roma - it was our first; great Italian or take out pizza.

Have a great trip!

1. Zozo's;
2. Rhumblines;
3. LaTapa (on Monday night for latin jazz).

Haven't been to Asolare in last several years, but want to revisit based on recent great reviews.

1. Zo-Zo's (Make a reservation to sit at the bar during sunset. Hands down our favorite meal of every trip.)

2. Cafe Roma (Not fancy, not expensive, generous portions, good service and really good food...every time.)

3. Banana Deck (Again...not fancy, not expensive, great service and great food...every time!)

Rhumblines (I love spicy);
The Balcony (I've only been there once, but I thought it was really good, plus I like to sit outside and the drinks were good too); and
Margarita Phils (most don't agree, but it works for me).

I concur with JC: Zo-Zo's (Make a reservation to sit at the bar during sunset.)
STJ - I "get it"

Zozo's hands down for me. I think we've eaten in every restaurant in the vicinity - Cafe Roma, La Tapa, Rhumblines, Banana Deck, Asolare, Morgans Mango, the Lime Inn, etc - and Zozo's is the only one I will definitely hit on every trip in the future.

The only other must eat in Cruz bay for us is Uncle Joe's :)

I do plan to hit La Tapa again. We ate there in 2001 and found it "ehhhh" but based on what I am reading on trip reports lately it deserves a 2nd try.

Only been there once (2 weeks ago!), but in Cruz Bay we ate at:

Zozo's
The Lime Inn
Morgan's Mango
Uncle Joe's (take out)

Have to agree with you on Zozo's ... it was great and no more expensive than a nice restaurant at home ... but with way better views!! Agree with you on Uncle Joe's too!
