Airfare Predictions
Airfare Predictions
We have just booked our villa for STJ (june 21-28) and are starting to look for reasonable flights from the Washington, DC area.
Last year, we paid about $350 r/t for a direct flight on United. However, this year (so far) the cheapest I have found has been $480 on american w/1 stop in SJU(the same direct flight from united came up as $550). This was quite a sticker shock for most of us in our group.
Can anyone give me some advice (or at least their best guess) on whether I should hold on to and see if prices some down a little? Or do people think prices will just go up from here?
Thanks,
Eric

Spirit Air wants $586 r/t. Ouch!!
I tried Yapta and the best flight I found right now is $510. I think I may wait this out a week or two to see if rates fall. I certainly don't think they can go much higher!?! If they do, I am be getting a surfboard and I will start my paddling now.

It is a very interesting idea -- I really don't want to be stuck with a credit I may/may not use but I guess it is better than overpaying and getting nothing out of it if prices drop.

The summer rates WILL come down. It's too early for the airlines to publish summer fare sales yet, but by April they will. Bide your time... I check AA.com every day and that's how I found (in January) a $210/RT from DCA to STT for March. The natural inclination is to try to wrap up every part of your trip planning early, but patience usually pays off with airfares when you have this much time before your trip.
