Do you know if the road to Maho is too rough for these safari trucks? I've stayed at Maho several times and I know the road getting to it is pretty rough. Could you fit 8 people in the safari truck if some are in the cab?

Hey Rick, I will see what I can do, I know I have that feature on my new Olympus 790, I tried it out last weekend while visiting some friends, but I don't seem to be able to hear it.

So if I can figure it out, I will send it to you :P

Your video must have been the day we were all at Woody's  , I have some pretty cute shots of your & Sweet Christine

Lovethebeach: I would think so, you can fit at least 6 in the back if not more depending on their size & other stuff you may in the back.

I dunno. After waiting and watching a safe distance behind a safari truck driven by a tourist on his third attempt to ascend the near vertical hairpin turn just before Peter Bay today in a light rain....sliding backward while the passangers in the back screamed, I would hesitate to recommend anything other than a four wheel drive.

We drove the road to Maho and several other beaches-Salt Bond everyday with no problem in our Safari truck. All the roads are such that it doesn't matter what kind of vehicle you have-you have do take it slow,or you end up like the lady on the last sharp curve going into Coral Bay-upside down. One again is everyone in your group comfortable with this arrangement? We are going in June again this year and we are renting to Jeeps as we found out not everyone wants to go to the same places all the time. I do think you would be much happier getting 2 of the 4 door Jeeps-new body style. It will cost a little more maybe a $150.00 total but it could save some hard feelings in the end end. Good Luck.

I do agree about having more than one car. The money spent is worth every cent a hundred times over.
There is always someone (or 2) that do not want to do what the rest of the group wants to. No matter how long you plan and how well you think you know these people, some thing always happens and the extra car can truly be the best for everyone.

Plus, it gets wet in the back when it rains.

Hey All,

Just back! Wow - the weather still stinks in New England!

Anyway, We thought the safari truck was great. That hairpin at Peter Bay is tough in ANY vehicle in the rain. My safari was a Chevy S10 cab with 4wd. We had 4 little kids, 2 adults in the back with "Dad" as the driver. It was great for hitting the beaches (no big deal with a ton of sand in the bed of the truck). My wife and sister in law dranks beer back there while I played chauffer. THERE is the only downside I can see. There is NO access between the cab and the back (like an open sliding window), so the only way to commuincate is to yell out the window. It was definitely a little lonely and isolating up front.

Cost was $660/wk from Spencers on STJ. Parking (as with all vehicles) was a hassle in Cruz Bay and Trunk Bay Beach.

Getting up and down to Vistaero was fine. My brother had a Jeep Liberty that didn't seem any better at negotiating it than the safari truck.

Good luck!
