Long Overdue Trip Report-12/26-1/3 Part 3
Day 4
This is a day to relax. We head out in the Jeep. We decide to drive the island! So, we take the northshore drive, stopping to ooh and aah at the incredible views. My husband is the driver f/k/a the dinghy captain and does not have quite as much fun as the passengers do....oh well, thats what you get for being the oldest-excuse me the wisest of the bunch.
We drive by Peter Bay, knowing that we would like to stay there, but just cannot take the drive at night, especially since we always end up imbibing just a little too much. We take pictures at the Trunk overlook (makes a photographer out of anyone).
We go all the way to Coral Bay, finding that it is really easy to navigate. Husband is doing fine, but still not having as much fun as we are. We keep going and going. The plan is to have brunch at Miss Lucy's (its Sunday) and then head to Rams Head and Drunk Bay.
All of the posts are correct. Just right when you think you are lost, look to the left and there is Miss Lucy's. By this time, its about 11 or later and we are starving. We did get a table ...ordered some mimosas and wonderful bloody marys and just took in the view and the wonderful music. We ordered about an hour later and then ate about 1:30. So, by the time we were finished, it was probably about 2:30. This was quite a long time.I don't know if we just caught them short handed, or if that is the way it always is. The food was great, the view was great.
By that time, we didn't really care to keep going. next day, maybe for this type of day, we will get going a little sooner or skip Miss Lucy's. Don't know.
At any rate, we took centerline road back, stopping at Chateau Bordeaux to take pictures. There were donkeys all over the road...as usual. We stopped in the gift shop across from Chateau. We had tried to get reservations at Chateuax, but could not get anyone on the phone!
We turned onto Gift Hill road. We have rented C'est Bleu Villa for a trip with 4 other couples in May, so we headed to Virgin Grand Estates to find the villa.
We found it, but could not see much. Oh well, it looks good on the CD. If anyone stays there between now and then please let us know.
We went to the Westin, just to check it out. We sat on the beach for a while and had the feeling of a cruiseship -type experience. The lady that served us some drinks was WONDERFUL, however, and had that sweet caribbean smile with a twinkle in her eye.
We headed back to Cocunut Coast. My husband and I sat by the pool and enjoyed the hot tub. Coconut Coast is a great value. When you sit on your balcony, you can hear the water lapping on the rocks. The sunset that afternoon was really another special St. John moment that left me, wordy as I am, quite speechless. Later we had a fabulous dinner at Rhumb Lines.. Our waitress, Tereasa, was wonderful. The food is really good there, but when they say spicy, they mean spicy.
Day 5
We had reservations for the Reef Bay Hike, so once again. I thought we were supposed to be there at 8:30. We get up early and head to JJ's for probably the best breakfast, and friendlist people on the island. We head to the National Park building and find that we didn't have to be there until 9:30 and that we should be prepared to be on the entire trip until about 4. That sounds a little long for us, so we cancel. So, what to do? Trunk. We head to Trunk and we arrive there at 8:45. Wow. I had read about arriving on Trunk early, but I had NO IDEA HOW WONDERFUL it is. There were 2 other people on the beach and it is Dec. 31!!!!!
Within 2 minutes, I am in the water seeing hundreds of fish, barracuda, a sea turtle scratching his neck on coral. I know I saw some sharks. Incredible.
We stay there until about one when the crowds pour in. Literally. So, we left and shopped around Mongoose.
On New Years Eve, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the bar overlooking the bay. What a great last day of 2007.
Day 6
This is the first day of the year so, like all good southerners, we dedicate the day to SEC Football. We sleep really late and make our way to town. We start out at JJ's, taking in part of the TN-Wisconsin game. We are told by our friendly waitress to head to Larry's Landing. So, we go there and watch the rest of the game with a few locals. Quite an interesting place. We then checked out Quiet Mon Pub to watch Arkansas get drilled by Missouri. We shop around some more around town and head to the pool at Coconut Coast.
We enjoyed a nice dinner at Lime Inn. The trip is really winding down.
Another great sunset, then off to dinner at the Lime Inn. Later, we take in the Georgia-Hawaii game. Told you...thats what we do to celebrate the new year...football.
special st. john seredipity....Trunk Bay in the morning on the last day of the year.
Notes for the next trip:
Skip the Westin
Prepare for Miss Lucy's brunch by getting there early and not being too hungry. Proceed to Rams head, etc. drunk bay.
Prepare mentally for an all day deal to do the Reef Bay hike.

Try witholding FOOD! It usually works around here. They'll come around and do it.sqd wrote:I have called upon the IT department (which consists of our technologically gifted kids) to assist in putting the pics online. They usually get around to helping mom about a week or two after I ask. Oh well..
