ferry question

Post by sueoz »

Hi - we'll be on St. John next month. There will be 4 of us taking the ferry from Red hook and we'll all have luggage. Do we bring the luggage on ourselves? Do we have to check it in? Is it charged per piece or is it by tips to porters? Thanks for any help. I'm assuming we can just arrive and buy tickets right before the ferry leaves.
Thanks,
sue

You will hand over your luggage to guys who will load all the bags onto the ferry. You pay per piece of luggage that they handle, but I can't remember how much. A few dollars. I think Bill did tip the guys when we got to Cruz Bay and they unloaded all the bags onto the dock. Hope that helps.

It is 2.00 per bag you pay for the tags when you get your ticket. I don't tip any more since they started charging for the bags

It is $2.00 per bag and you pay when you buy your ferry ticket. You then carry your own bags to the ferry and leave them to be loaded onto the boat.

If you use a porter it is still $2.00 per bag plus the porter "fee" - not sure how much that is but probably another $2.00 per bag.

I just used the CA ferry and as they were loading my bag they were saying "don't forget to tip" (I think they added when you get off but not sure) so I just looked at him and said - "I live here" and he laughed and said "Oh" - no tip is required at either end unless you want to.

If you just do carry-on do you have to give them those as well?
