Please Help with Rental Choices (Make Suggestions Too!)

Post by LysaC »

Hello everyone!

Hubby and I are trying to book a STJ rental for next year. Here are our priorities:

1. Coral Bay preferred (or other quiet, laid back areas).
2. Privacy.
3. Under $2,000 preferred but @ $2k is ok.
4. Not a condo/apartment/shared residence/inn.
5. Pool and/or hottub preferred.
6. Nothing fancy but must be clean.
7. View of the water (at least).

Is that enough to start with, hahahahaha?!!

We rented Sago Cottage on Calabash Boom a few years agao and it was perfect.... except for the mattress  . The mattress sucked ass. Very uncomfortable. I'm also concerned about recent construction in that area.

As you can imagine, it's hard to find under $2k with our preferences but we've found a few cute places:

TRANQULITY

KIDDLE BAY

PAPERMOON
http://www.carefreegetaways.com/papermoon.html

FISHBONE
http://www.stjohnfishbone.com/accomodations.php

BLUE CARIBE

These are all great but nothing really jumps out at me. I like Kiddle Bay due to it's proximity to the bay but it's a looooong drive from Coral Bay (the website is not quite accurate about the time).

Any other suggestions or any feedback on these cottages?

I believe Paper Moon may be off of the market - my brother had a deposit on it for November and was told that it was being, or had been sold, so they had to find another place.

Lysa,
Are you looking for under 2K high season or low? If low, have you looked at St. John Livin'? http://www.bookitvi.com/livin.htm
or Seabiscuit?

Good suggestion on Tradewinds Cottage, Janet---I've looked at the website a number of times and thought it looked great. Blue Caribe is new and beautifully finished for the price---I'd love to stay there. I also like the location of Cameron Cove. Of course, I haven't stayed at any of these so I'm no real help.

We are staying in high season... January. That's what makes the under $2k so challenging.

Fun & Contentment looks reeeeeally nice but did anyone else find the rental rates? Can I just bicker with them d'ya think?

Hubby found Tradewinds as well. That view of that bay down below is what dreams are made of...

The cheapest I could find on the Coral Bay side with a pool during high season was Bay House at $2,450. The reviews have been good and VIVA has it listed for the same price, so you can skip the CV 5% fee.

A few weeks ago, we stayed in Honeymoon Cottage for 4 nights in b/w stays at two other villas. It might work for you. It had an exceptionally fresh/clean hot tub, great location (Francis Bay) and a beautiful view of Leinster Bay looking toward Tortola. Quiet. Easy access to the rest of the island.

Terry Witham, the rental agent, is a very fine person and good to work with.

I'm afraid that it is more than your budget will allow during high season. :(

A little higher than your budget, but SO worth it.

LOVED this place, would stay there again in a heartbeat. Not a single complaint (after we got used to the driveway that is).

Chickadee- you read our mind! Hubby mentioned Astral Ridge last night- owned by the same people who have Sago Cottage.

I've heard so many wonderful things about Astral Ridge but am concerned about the shared property. Is one house really private from the other?

We would love to rent the Ridge but the Cottage is more in line with our budget.
