Which Villa for honeymoon in June??

Post by kriskat32 »

Hello! My finance and I are looking for a villa for our honeymoon this June. We have both spent alot of time reading about St. John but we cant decide what part of the island is best. We are looking for a Villa that is quiet and private, must have a pool and be near a beach. We are going for 10 days and our budget is about $4k for the villa itself. Does any one have any suggestions?

welcome! we chose Bongo Bongo for our honeymoon and could not have been happier. Lovely villa with great location for us. We prefered being near town for that trip.
Feel free to PM or email me with any questions.

Congratulations! St. John is beautiful and June is a nice time of year to go. There are lots of choices---fortunately, there are a lot of nice options.

A smaller villa in an absolutely wonderful location is the Peter Bay Gatehouse. We stayed in a house larger than you need that shared a driveway with the Gatehouse---the view is spectacular, and its just a few minutes from all of the best North Shore beaches. And the upper unit is wide open in June. Check with Destination St. John.

There are two new identical 2BR villas listed with Caribbean Villas called Pink Conch and Bombalassy---either one of those might work. Pink Conch got rave reviews on another forum. These villas are convenient to town. They have some availability in June. I haven't seen them---they are brand new---but I know the location, which is nice.

Latitude is a gorgeous villa on the south shore of St. John. Its larger than what you need but still barely within your budget. Check with Catered To. It appears to be open in June. This would have more space and privacy than the other choices.

I had several other top villa picks to recommend that are already booked for June.

Another possibility is to leave the housekeeping to someone else and to honeymoon at Caneel Bay or Gallows Point Resort---both great in different ways. Lots of info on both resorts on this Board.

Meant to also mention Reef Madness on the Coral Bay side, which is brand new:

My husband and I stayed at Miles Away Villa in Point Rendevous on our honeymoon last June and loved it!! The property is managed by Destination St. John. Here is a link to the site: http://www.destinationstjohn.com/miles_away.htm

If you have any questions, please PM or email me. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming nuptials! :)

Wow! Thanks for the suggestions. :P They all look beautiful and I forwarded all of them to my finance.

Has any ever been to VILLA SIEMPRÉ AZUL? My fiance liked this one.

Also, since we are going for 12 days, should we spend the whole time on St. John? I heard you can take the ferry from St. Thomas to the neighboring islands. Would you recommend any place else in addition to St. John?

Thanks again for all your help!!

I agree with all the above Villa suggestions. I also like Caneel Trailside Cottage. I would suggest visting Jost Van Dyke (BVI) one day and Virgin Gorda one day. Whatever you do, you will have a fabulous time!

Does Siempre Azul have a pool? I didn't think it did and that was something you said you wanted.

Congratulations on your wedding and welcome.

Siempre Azul gets great reviews; it is on the east side of the island. It has a spa but no pool.

There are a lot of things to consider for your 10 day stay. Ferries to other islands (Jost, Virgin Gorda, shopping in St. Thomas) or day trips to snorkel (Wayward Sailor, Breath, Bread and Water, etc.).

You could also consider splitting your time between both sides of the island. Since it is off-season, you would not have a problem staying < seven days.

I think iowaguy makes a good point regarding housekeeping on your honeymoon. Maybe Caneel Bay for a few days at the end of your stay. It's one of the few places "on the beach" and you could really relax before heading back to the real world.

Peter Bay Gatehouse does not have a pool, but the location is ideal.

I agree with others who suggested Caneel Resort; you can't beat having seven idyllic beaches at your toe tips. They also offer a very nice package during the off season...mid April through mid December...which is quite reasonable. It wasn't up on their web site yet....last time I checked.

You can take a ferry to some other islands from St. John.

I'd suggest Cinnamon Tarn even though it doesn't have a pool. It does have a huge hot tub and the views from up on the ridge can't be beat. La Chateau (next door) is also a great 2 bedroom house in Catherineberg.

Terrahawk will let you walk to Gibney beach (very nice). You can stay on that beach as well in the Gibney cottage.

VickiH stays at a great looking place over near Francis Bay, I think it is Sunnyledge. I think she has stayed at Siempre Azul as well.

I love Allesandra, but no beach front, nor is there for most villas.

I would consider picking a house that fits your budget, is new, has a pool and is private. There are 52 beaches on St. John. You'll want to see more than one.

Cheers, RickG

Before taxes, Kallaloo (Catered To) is $3,900. It is next door to Terrahawk but because of how the house is situated and landscaped, the outdoor areas are private, especially the covered porch area.

It is a classic island house, not a STJ version of someone's mainland McLuxMansion. There is no ac, r granite countertops or flat screen but it is perfectly maintained, up to date furnishings, good quality outdoor furniture (teak dining table and chairs) cushioned sofas, loveseats, etc. (the pictures on the site aren't current) Decent size pool.

We loved the location, easy walk to Gibney Beach and within the Park, and the exotic feel of the house - open cypress ceilings, no glass windows, rustling palms, etc.
