Some photos of St. John circa 1967
Is this the same wall Ruth?StJohnRuth wrote:The Chase Manhattan Bank Building is to the right of where The Lime Inn and The Pink Payaya are now. I think the building is now pink.
The picture with the stone wall has both Ron and I perplexed....Not sure where that is.
These photos are very cool, Bill W.
We can't wait for more!

Hi,
i guess I do look old, but I know exactly where all of those were taken.
Two notes:
The old Chase Bank building is NOT Mooies...it's on the next street up, next to Lime Inn/Pink papaya--has had a variety of retail businesses over the years.
The photo with the wall on the right-- that everyone thinks is the street from the Catholic church coming back toward Lime Inn-- is not even on St.John--think it was Tortola, upper Main Street. Some of the other photos on Flickr are definitely Tortola. Thanks for the post!

Tortola
Hugo - Thanks for catching that; I didn't post a lot of those "street" photos here because I wasn't sure if they were from STJ or not. What I'm going to do is try to get the slides back in order so I can figure out which ones were taken on our day trip to the BVIs and which ones were taken on STJ.

I think I posted this a few years ago. Some old photo galleries of St John.

Tortola
Hi Again Bill,
My opinion on the Flickr photos:
the ones labeled street 4, street 5 and street 6 are all Tortola, the one labeled Parking lot 1 is probably St. Thomas, all the rest are St. John.
1967 was one hell of a dry year here. Got any more?

Hugo - Thanks, if those are Tortola, that may help me figure out what the rest of them are, once I pull the slides out of the trays and get them in order. Could the parking lot one be from the STT airport? I know we didn't stay long there, just the airport, the grocery store, and to the ferry.
I will be scanning more of these slides, and I'll post a few of them (with link to the others) here when I do.

Lex,
Do you know what year the second picture of the dockside was taken? I think the woman in the purple shirt and black shorts is my sister who camped on St. John in the late 70s... early 80s. I e-mailed her the pic and she thinks it might be her meeting a friend's ferry, but she isn't totally sure. She's forwarding it to her friend for another opinion. Just so weird to see something like that 25ish years later.
BTW... love seeing the old pics of how STJ was when I first started going there.
