Help with bird species

Post by Cindy in pa »

OK I just got back from St John and need help identifying two birds that were on a rock at little Lamshur. They looked like penguins from the shore. When I snorkeled out to the rock they just sat there.
They were large, sat upright, black heads and bodies with white under neck and under body. Their beaks where large and straight and a pale yellow. Their feet were huge and a very bright yellow. I dont think they were female frigate birds because of the yellow feet.
Does anyone have any idea what these birds are? I wish i had an underwater camera at the time but there was someone else out there taking pictures. If anyone knows or has seen them please respond. Thanks

If so, it's a Brown Booby. I want to see one when we're there!

They did look alot like booby birds but they were definately blackk. I also think their necks were white underneath. I am going to try and send a pic I took from the shore and then zoomed in. Send a message to my email then i can send it to yours.

Where's that ten foot pole? On second thought, I probably shouldn't even touch it with that.

Sorry - I guess my mind just often resides in the gutter!

They're like fat. Brown boobies are much better than pale boobies.

Was Whitney Houston nearby?

Oh sorry... that's Bobby Brown, but a real boob (as in idiot) nonetheless.
