Day trip to Anegada ?

Post by snorkelqueen »

We will be on island July 08 and would like to take a snorkel trip to Anegada. Is it possible to do a day trip there? If so, any suggestions an a captain?

It seems like a very long trip for a day but if anyone could or would do it it would be Capt Clark on White Wing. You can get his info through Connections in Cruz Bay. White Wing is a sailboat, maybe a motor boat would do better.

I'd say that a day trip to Anegada from STJ is NOT doable. Even if you could find someone to charter and run up there you wouldn't have enough time on the island to make it worth the cost of gas to get there. Anegada's a whole other thing. We did it by flying up for the day from Beef Island in Tortola but from STJ, I'd say no.

It is a haul - and arguable if it is worth it or not time wise for day trip. If you can afford to fly (from St. Thomas) it is the best way to go. By boat, you will be spending the bulk of your time getting there and back. I have done it both ways - wouldn't go by boat again unless I was spending some time there, or if it was part of a longer boat trip that included other islands. I think RickG has Anegada experience also.

And you can see this from one of our trips there:

Let the whole page load and just keep scrolling down for pictures and text about Anegada.

Ubfortunately, a day trip from STJ to Anegada is not possible. If someone can provide information to the contrary, I will hoot with joy. You can however do the ferry from Road Town Tortola to Anegada, runs M-W-F. It still however requires an overnight each way due to ferry and customs times. Last I checked, even the planes leave too early to get to STT from STJ in the morning and are very expensive. So, in a word, no.
Going "home" again October 26th!

I guess no is the answer. I'd say make Anegada a
separate trip or at least a trip in conjuction with
the BVI's.

Brenda there is a boat from St. Thomas, can't remember the name and if it is once a week or once or twice a month, but you can take it, change in Road Town, and make it to Anegada and back in a day (I did it once - I would not do it again). And - you can charter your own plane (and pretty much pick your own flight schedule). If you have 5 people it really isn't that bad. Flying directly to Anegada is great - the customs process lasts about a minute!

I would agree that a day trip is not feasible. If you were obsessed, then a charter flight from St. Thomas or Puerto Rico would work.

Anegada is delightful and I would recommend going for at least a couple of nights. Neptunes Treasure is a very nice place to stay.

Cheers, RickG

We will also be on St. John starting July 8. We are considering spending a few days on Anegada after we leave St. John. I've heard wonderful things about Anegada. My husband & I are avid snorkelers and are excited to see some of their reefs.
