St. John Bush Cat pics

I love animals, and cats in particular. so I was thinking that the ferel cats (bush cats) on our favorite little island were neat little guys, I'd love to see if anyone else here has some St. John bush cat pics.

I have quite a few pics of them since my wife and I visited a bush cat feeding station (quite accidentally) on our last trip in 2005. Here's a few to get started, I hope some of you have some pics to share.

Oh my gosh, only a true cat lover would lie on the ground in Mongoose Junction

. There is a "bush cat" that lives at Gallow's Point. We have seen him/her every trip. We have three of them at home, each with very unique personalities.

Great thread Dave! Unfortunately I don't have any kitty pictures, but I scratched up that same cat at Mongoose Junction.

I love cats. Have 2 in my bed every night. I have never heard of bush cats. I thought they were just regular alley cats. If you're a cat lover, your a great guy.

is nice to actually see them in pictures..we will
have to keep an eye out for them! We are also cat
lovers, and have 5 at home. You didn't mention if
you had any at home..do you??

Hmmm, looks like no one really has any bush cat pics. Here's our 2 bush cats

They're tuxedo cats, not related, and they're SPCA cats.

Sorry, I don't remember where exactly this one station is, but it's in the Coral bay area. We ran across it while we driving back from driving to the east end. The feeding station was on a homeowners property, and off the side of the road a little (and hard to notice if your not paying attention) We stopped to look at a cat by the road, and an older couple came out of their little house when they saw us lingering, they approached us to talk (I thought they were going to tell us to get the hell out of here, ya damn tourists!) but they were awesome! We spent about an hour and a half chatting with them, they're a retired couple from Boston, and they told us all about themselves and their feeding station, they said it was all payed for by the government while they were just volunteering their property and time, and they loved cats!

St. John does a good thing with their feral cat population, it's a good humane way to take care of the "problem"

I'd do it in a heartbeat if I lived there.

I have some feral cat pictures, but I must have used my film camera for them because I don't see them in my flickr.

I remember two cats in particular that visited our houses. The first cat was on our first trip, when we stayed on Hart Bay. The cat would just walk right into the house and whine for food. Of course we would feed her, but only outside.

After a few days she got in the habit not coming in, but instead standing in the doorway and meowing for food. If we did not respond she would walk all around the house looking for us, peeking in every window, meowing. She even scrunched herself into the crawl space where the screen for the shower was once, and stood there meowing while I tried to take a shower! By the end of the trip we were feeding her four times a day because she would meow so loud if we did not. I swear you could hear the cat's voice echoing off the bay sides!

Another trip we had a semi-resident cat. She was a part siamese that would sleep in a little grass burrow she made near the walkway to our house's bedroom pod. This cat was quite the gourmet. She would only eat "certain" foods. Leftover rare tuna from the Stone Terrace, yes. Plain chopped up turkey meat, no way. Milk, yes. But the time we tried to give her water she knocked the bowl over!

Speaking of finicky, my hellacious cat allergy aside, my first trip to Brazil I had the opportunity to enjoy churrasquinho de gato It was better than I expected.

Mmmm, bush cat.

This is "Aaah", one of the many cats that hang around the Tennis Villa/Cottage property. The owners keep a barrel of cat food around and encourage renters to feed them. This one is named "Aaah" because that's the only sound he ever made. He made it very frequently, though. He was the friendliest of the bunch, hopped up on my lap a few times. This was taken in May of '06, hopefully the little guy is still around.

There's a large grey tiger tom that hangs around Sol Inclination. He's either mostly feral or doesn't like tourists. In the morning we would find him sleeping in the chairs outside the kitchen, or lounging on the chaise on the stone terrace below the pool. He wouldn't run, but would get up and saunter away when I got close.

All my cats have dog names: Rex, Rusty, Ginger, Spike, Rover.
