I remember when you were thinking about your first trip alone and wondering how it would be. It obviously works well for you. I am so glad you had such a wonderful and peaceful time. Your TR and pictures are incredible. Thanks for sharing and letting us live a bit through your experience. I wish you many more trips "home" like that.
Vicki,
Loved the insight into StJ, we are anticipating our first trip in June - can't wait.
One thing; you mentioned renting a jeep in STT, wondering why. Is that a better idea than renting on StJ for some reason?
Saw you also take your own snorkeling gear, do you find that advisable?
Incidentally I was particulatly amazed that you managed to cram all those pairs of flip-flops in with everything!!!
Dinah.

CAGirl - glad you're back! Hey, the horizons are only straight thanks to photo editing...I noticed that the horizon slanted more and more depending on how many drinks I had....
Red Ears - whether you rent on STJ or STT is really just a matter of personal preference, wouldn't say one is "better" than the other. As for snorkeling gear, I just can't get the thought of something that you wallow around in your mouth and slobber all over being shared (no comments from the peanut gallery, please....). I want my own stuff.
Cheap fins are very flexible and bend in your carry-on pretty easily.

Vicki's trip report
Wow, is all I can say. Your notes/review were really helpful as I know you've been going there for many years, and your pictures were AMAZING, truly amazing. Thanks for all of that.
My husband and I are headed to STJ for the 1st time in 2 weeks....going for our 2nd anniversary (got married on Grenada in Jan '06, at the ripe ages of 43 and 46..1st marriage for both and so worth the wait)....we pick a new island every year, and really look forward to this one as it seems to be just our style...quiet, laid back and naturally beautiful.
We will stay at Sago Cottage (which we've heard is lovely) for the 1st week by ourselves and look forward to the solitude of the Coral Bay area.....we will then join friends for the 2nd week at Andante by the Sea on Hart Bay and look forward to that as well. I'm glad that we get to see both sides of the island and look forward to seeing the differences.
I have researched as much as a human can, I think, but would still welcome your advice (or anyone who wants to chime in) as to where the nicest beaches are (not commercial, but nice, quiet, good snorkeling, and not too hard to get to). We love the beach and just sitting and reading and snorkeIing, and not too much rif raf...we don't need total seclusion, but at the same time, we don't want to spend the day with the cruise ship people!
I think I have a handle on food...Miss Lucy's sounds fab (though I was sad to hear of her death), Skinny's (we arrive on Super Bowl Sunday so that's where we'll go), the Beach Bar are all a must, but any other recommendations would be great. We like good food, but we like atmosphere and local hangouts/flavor as well.
That's about it for now...again, thanks so much for your post and I hope re-entry hasn't been too painful!
