Off topic Peter Island Honeymoon?

Post by CruzBayB »

Just because you are all so familiar with the entire VI area... if I lose my mind and offer to just swing for an awesome honeymoon for my daughter and her guy, what do yall know about Peter Island and the resort there? It looks just fabulous...

Friends went there last December for a little getaway and LOVED it. They couldn't say enough about the resort. They actually did 1/2 of their time in STJ and 1/2 at Peter Island.
Wow, you are a good Mom. :)

I have not visited Peter Island, but would love to. Would they enjoy the seclusion or feel confined?

I ask because we went to Caneel and loved the combination of the quite beaches (as well as the access) and the ability to explore the rest of the island each afternoon.

Okay, if it were me........ I'd say rent them the Gatehouse (upper unit) at Peter Bay in STJ; wonderful for them and very affordable for you (especially compared to what a Peter Island honeymoon would probably cost you. You could even throw in the jeep rental. I'm having fun spending your $ (LOL)). Anway, my thought is that they may want to return to their honeymoon destination on their anniversaries and based on your previous thread (Honeymoon suggestions), you mentioned something about a budget, so Peter Island might not be an option for them to do that due to the high cost involved. Okay, just something else for you to consider. My congrats to them. Good luck, Ali~

If you were going to splurge this wouldn't be a bad way to do it. We have never stayed there but we always stop for a day when we are on charter. It definitely would be a nice way to spend a few days alone and would likely make a very nice honeymoon.

Is the whole island a resort? What is their policy for daytrippers?

Yes the whole island is a resort. Beaches are public in the BVI's so day triping is allowed. They ask that you respect the privacy of guests. Here is a link to their web page showing guide lines. You don't have to use the marina you can anchor out and swim or dinghy in.

At my recommendation, my brother & sister-in-law spent 5 nights on Peter Island last summer. They absolutely loved it...everything about it. Everything you see in the pictures & read on the website - it's all that and more! But after 5 nights they were starting to tire of the food and ready to move on.

My son & new daughter-in-law spent their honeymoon last April at Caneel and of course, loved it. There is just more available, as Im sure you know, over a resort like Peter that is it's own island. Depends on their taste.

Wish you'd been my Mom! Best wishes to you all!

FYI - I just spotted a Luxurylink package for sale for Peter Island - 7 nights in an oceanview room for $3442 plus tax & gratutity. That works out to be $491 per night which I've never seen and includes a bunch of extras. That's a really great deal. The package is good from May 1 to Oct 31, 2008. When's the wedding?

BPT, I agree that's a good price for PI, which is very expensive. Here are 2 caveats:

Ocean view at that price will put you on a bottom floor (of a two storey building) and you will not see the ocean. But it will be just steps away from your door.

Next, while that price you quote includes room and little extras, the food plan there is very expensive -- and there's no place else to go. It's there way or... a fishing rod? :-)

On the plus side, it's very private. There's a marina, of course, so sailboat and scuba trips are available to fabulous spots.

Cat - That PI package price includes all meals. That's why it's such a good deal. I believe that is the only way the rooms are sold. My brother stayed in that catagory room and no it's not the greatest. But it is dirt cheap compared to their beachfront rooms!

we've been there quite a bit on our sailing trips in the BVI. it's truly lovely. i've never stayed there but wouldn't hesitate a bit - especially for a honeymoon.

one other location to consider - what about little dix bay on virgin gorda? we went there on our honeymoon (over peter island just because there's more to do on the island). it was wonderful! you can also do a package where they spend part of the time at caneel and LDB.

you can't go wrong with either one!

Thank you all for the information... I would love to send them either to Peter Island or Caneel but I am waiting to see how the honeymoon plans progress with his family right now. I may need to help so I am just doing a little checking around. I have to plenty to keep me busy with the wedding plans but who knows, maybe I'll just relax after the wedding with my own trip to the islands again!

Oh and great pics Jay, we can always count on you!
