Airfare booked makes it seem more real.

Post by Nic in KC »

Decided to book airfare last night on Delta since the flight times and one stop in Atlanta are the best we can find. Paid 640.00/ticket which isn't horrible, but we'd hoped for 600.00 or less. Leave KC at 6am and too STT 1:24. It just makes it seem like we'll actually go soon since airfare is now booked! Now I feel like I can go into planning mode!! Any experiences with Delta to STT?

We did Delta in June 2007. IAD - ATL - STT
We did not have any problems at all except for the very long line at the STT airport on the way back.
I understand if you are checking luggage and have your pre printed boarding pass, you can grab a porter and not have to stand in the long hot line to get to the ticket counter. If you are doing carry on, the same would apply. Congrats on the tickets!

KSea - what day of the week did you fly back?

We'll be on Delta in November, This past October, on AA, we avoided the airport horror stories by flying out on a Monday in off season - hope that will help us this time as well.
Come see us!

June of 2007 was a Saturday. June of 2008 will be Friday to Friday on AA. November of 2008 (SOTB II) will be Saturday to Saturday on AA.
The AA fares were so much better this time.

Oh my goodness....I just posted here and said I wanted to pay less then 600, but booked at 640 and then I checked delta.com just in case and lo and behold, the price had dropped to 568 pp. Thanks to reading somewhere that most airlines will refund/rebook within 24 hours of purchase, I called delta and they immediately hooked me up. So, now we are paying less this year than we did last year. We've had a bunch of small, but crummy things happening lately and this one good surprise makes me soooo happy!

We didn't have any problems with Delta last year into STT. We are flying with them again in June. Your times, (Nic in KC) sound just like ours ... 6:00am from LEX ... ATL ... STT 1:30ish. It should be good.

OMG, I feel so bad for you all that the fares are so high. I recently checked airfare from NY (JFK) to STT (direct) for a Sat. to Sat. in November and it's $220.00 (not including taxes and what ever that other fee is). So, like $260.00ish; still quite reasonable. Ali~

Hey Nic,

We used Delta in June and again in November, the same flights you are on MCI-ATL-STT. We have had no problems. Flights on time and checked bags made it OK.
In November we paid $538 including all fees and taxes.

Only one stop is sweet. Flying out of KC on AA is a pain, with at least 2 stops. Used to use US Airways with just one stop in Charlotte, but there return flight now leaves STT to late to make the last flight from Charlotte to KC.

The last two trips we have flown on weekdays, to and from, and have had no problems with long lines in STT.

When are you going and where are you staying? Where ever, you will have a great time. Just wish I already had the next one planned.

Congratulations Nic!
Will be interested to hear how your flights go in May. We are booked on Delta in June. We like arriving early into STT.

Last year we drove to Miami and flew direct from there to STT. That was relatively easy, but hiiting rush hour traffic out of Miami was terrible culture shock after a week of the roads on STJ.

I decided to try and see if we could get on island earlier - the Miami flights arrive around 3:20, just late enough to miss the 4:00PM ferry, and since we'll be going a couple of weeks later in the year, and staying further away from the ferry dock, in the Coral Bay area, I wanted more daylight time on arrival day.

Fort Lauderdale airport is a little closer to us, but their two daily flights to STT leave at 6:40AM and 4:30PM and both include a sizeable layover in San Juan.

I have some Delta FF miles burning a hole iin my pocket, so I was able to get flights using some of them that leave from our local airport - a 10 minute drive from our house, at 7:30AM, fly to Atlanta where we have a layover just under an hour, which in all likelihood we'll use getting to the gate for the next leg, and the ATL-STT flight lands in STT around 1:30PM - perfect!
Come see us!

Glad to see that everyone has had success with Delta. We'll hope for the same. Just can't deal with the American craziness that MarkR mentioned. We did fly United once last year for a great price in August, but that was due to the time of year. We'll be going Thursday to Sunday of the following week. Husband and I will stay on STT likely at Secret Harbour for Thursday until Sunday morning. The rest of our crew will arrive on Saturday with the same flights and they are actually picking up my brother's girlfriend in Atlanta so that works perfectly. Then, they'll stay on STT Saturday night and we'll be on island time, having breakfast and catching the ferry the next morning and heading over to St. John to stay at Sol Inclination for the week. Husband and I just wanted a couple of days to ourselves before the rest arrive. I'm counting down the days!!!

MarkR-hello to another midwestern resident! If we could get the airfare prices like some of the other people in other parts of the country, we could always have another trip planned! Hope you can get back on island soon!!

Thanks all!
Nicolle
