Pre-Trip Report: Czech Republic

Post by RickG »

Sweet Christine and I are headed off to the Czech Republic for 10 days before I finish the November STJ Trip Report. Well, there's beer to be drunk.

This is mostly a beer hunting trip as well as a trip of love. We'll be sleeping in brewery hotels every night. We'll even do some non-beer tourist stuff, as we walk between breweries.

The itinerary looks like:

- Prague

- Ceske Budejovice - home of the original Budweiser (Budejovicky in Czech)

- Cesky Krumlov - World heritage site with just one brewerey!

- Plzen - Home of the first Pilsener, Pilsener Urquell (Plzensky Prazdoj in Czech)

- Prague for one more late night of romping before we go home.

We've been practicing our Czech:

- "Dobry den" - Hello

- "Dve piva prosim" - Two beers please

- "Kolik do clen urcity ovce?" - How much for the sheep?

If you don't hear from us in ten days check the Interpol web site.

Cheers, RickG

Have a nice trip. And even though we prefer to recommend the Danish beer, we have to admit that
the Czechs also know how to make beer. To sit in the wonderful city, Prague drinking of a mug with Czech beer is just enjoyable.

Have a great trip! I'd love to read a beer tasting report when you are back.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Have a great time and don't get into too much trouble. I would say that I wish I was coming too cuz everyone loves a vacation but I'm not a beer drinker (gasp, I know). You still love me anyway, right Rick? Tell Christine I said to have a great time and that she should kkep you in line

XOXO

We head to the airport. Life is good. I'm leaving a client site now..... very quietly. I'll try to do a live report while we are there.

There's a new beer specialty store in Vero Beach - the owner/operator ( a really nice guy by the way) claims he can get just about any beer, from just about any place in the world.

Any suggestions on one or two I should challenge him with?

Hope you had a great time!

Well, I'd start with some you like! Czechvar (Budweiser Budvar) is a great start. Saison Dupont, Boon Gueze, 't Smisje Dubbel, Hercule Stout, Brasserie a Vapeur's Vapaeur Cochone are fun too.

If you want to be really obnoxious ask for Westvleteren 12 or Leipziger Gose.

Quick beer porn:

Budweiser Budvar being poured from the condition tank for our pleasure. This is unfiltered and unpasteurized. It was quite impressive - more crisply bitter than draught or bottle.

A perfect half litre of Pilsener Urquell for less than $2 in central Prague.
