watch suggestions for snorkeling & beach

Every year I wear my good watch down to SJ and invariably wind up putting it in my beach bag when we hit the beach.
Was wondering what my snorkel friends do regarding a watch. Any suggestions for an inexpensive watch thats cute that I can wear in the H2O and not worry about?
Would make my life easier as I am always worried that I am going to trash my watch at the bottom of my beach bag, read sand, suntan lotion etc.
Hubby does not have that problem because his watch goes into the villa safe and stays there for the ten days we are on island and he also does not snorkel. Somebody has to keep track of what time it is!!!!

Hi Susan,

I have a nice looking watch by Relic Wet. I wear it in the ocean and the pool and have never had a problem. Sand doesnt seem to bother it either. Less than $100.00

Bill has a really nice Seiko made for water sports. This one was about $200.00 at Overstock. Both our watches have been on many trips and both are still ticking!

For this we go cheap-cheap-cheap! as in Timex or such...if it's lost stolen (why? who would want it?)...damaged, no big loss!

Funny...we were just in a Fossil outlet yesterday and wouldn't spend $20 for one of their watches when we knew we could get one for less!

My husband & I both have watches by "Freestyle", they are great for diving, snorkeling, and just about anything - we've had then around 5 years and still ticking. I have seen them on STJ for sale at Low Key Watersports.

I had a Tag Heur dive watch for 19 years and when I finally actually went scuba diving with it, it failed.
I just bought a Delmar tech 200 women's dive watch which looks good to wear all of the time. The Tag Heurs were $850 and this looks almost the same for $100.

Ive tried several cheapies (wal mart, drug store)...and they never last more than a day or two. Then you have to hunt for a new watch while on vacation. Not worth it in my opinion.
I've had my relic for several years and its pretty enough to wear to the nicest restaurant.

I have a technosport - ~$100. It's stainless steel with a mother-of-pearl face and a white leather-like band. I wear it all summer and on any beachy vacations.

It's good to about 35 meters; not sure I'd dive with it, but it's great for snorkeling, swimming, pool, etc.

just a reminder, barracuda's are attracted to shiny things. no jewels for me in the water.

My moto is its FIVEOCLOCK SOMEWERE Take the watch off and just let the island time take over. Your on vacation, sorry I know that wasn't much help.

I just checked out the Relic Wet watches and they are really pretty and reasonably priced. It said they are water resistant to 100 feet vs water proof. I thought "resistant" meant it could be splashed or be around water, but not submerged. But this says it's resistant to 100 feet which sounds submerged to me. So I wonder what the difference is? I thought I should check into getting a better watch since I'm going to be around water all the time now!

I have a Freestyle Lotus (http://www.freestyleusa.com/products/womens.php) that I've worn in all kinds of water-- sea, lake, pool-- and it's always been great. They have several women's styles and are reasonably priced.

about every 2 yrs i buy a royal blue and black velcro band "sport Watch" at walmart last one was $8.95. keeps good time and is my double ugly, yard, shop, beach watch. at the beach i loop around cooler handle, chair arm or beach bag handle so easy for all to check. too ugly and cheap for anyone to steal unless they walk off with whatever attached to. if concerned about that then bring a spare.

doubt much good in water even though says "100 ft water resistant". doesn't say whether that's above or below sea level.

My Timex IronMan Expeditions have been wonderful. ~$40 at Kohls (and online retailers). I've always gotten "fast strap" ones (velcro) in the past, but am now considering one with a buckle as I tire of having a soggy wrist band while it dries out.

They're rated deep enough for recreational diving and I've never had one fail in the water. I love the indiglo feature where the face lights up. The ones I've got have 2 time zone settings so I don't even have to reset my watch when traveling from home to STJ and back, just switch time zone settings. Also does 2 alarms, has alarm options for every day/week days/weekends, does timer and chrono too, not that I ever really use them.

Hubby is of the "island time" mentality and takes his watch off and puts it on on the ferry. Couldn't care less what time it is. I've never been able to subscribe to that approach myself though.

Uhh, why? Seriously, this is vacation time. Are there many people out there who need to be controlled by the clock even when on island time? Somehow that just doesn't seem right.

Palmtree...I am with you on not caring about the time. The only time I care is when we have dinner reservations!...Thats IT.

We also loop it around one of our beach bags or cooler and only occasionally glance at it.
