Winter sun = warm pool...help us pick our next Villa

Post by Coden »

Ok - so we are in the early stages of picking another villa for X-mas & New Years for 2009. I know that seems like a long time away, but we all know it isn't. :)

As much as we Loved Bay House in Coral Bay, the pool water was like ice. So virtually the pool was useless, unless one jumped in...which I did a couple of times.

So my question is: Which area of the island should I concentrate on for our villa, so I can assure my husband and son that we will have a warm pool. Weather permitting of course. :)

Thnx!!

Definitely ask if the pool is heated. Most are not so If you're there in the winter months you might be disappointed to find that the water is chilly if the pool is not heated.

Will it just be the 3 of you? I did a walk through of La Chateau several years ago and it's a beautiful house with a fabulous view.

Wow - La Chateau looks awesome. I like the yard, so old-fashion (in a grand old estate way) and different from what you usually see on St. John.

We stayed in the Maria Bluff neighborhood last year in February. The sun was brutually hot and the pool was so warm, we swam at night as well as first thing in the morning and it felt like bath water. (Splendore thru Vacation Vistas)

Jazz Villa has a Western exposure and the pool stays warm. I find a lot of the houses with Eastern exposure tend to be cooler, more so for the Northern exposure. With the Southern exposure you get a strong wind pretty much all the time, which chills things down a good bit.

We'll be in Bay House in March, I'll mention the pool temp for sure. My 10 year old fish Ana will be in there the whole time regardless.

Cheers, RickG

Thanks everyone, I've put your suggestions on my list. There will only be 4 of us, so we really only need two bedroom villa's, unless we find a 3+ at a reasonable price, that is. :)

Check out Splendore w/Vacation Vistas. We were there the 1st part of December and the pool was wonderful!! We found the villa to be just about PERFECT in every way.

Splendore and Allesandra are two of our favorite villas, and both pools have plenty of sun and are really nice.

Happy Planning!

A Warm Pool

Post by South Shore Villa »

The pool at the South Shore Villa (www.stjohnrental.com) is South facing and thus gets sun all day. Additionally, it has a stone wall that extends into the pool. This picks up the heat during the day and helps to keep the pool warm even in the evenings. Finally, we are considering a solar hot water system for the pool and would likely install it in April 2008. Good luck choosing your villa.

Kind Regards,
Larry

Thanks again everyone - all of the villa's you've mentioned are all wonderful and have been put on my list.

I think we really are looking for smaller places though. Bay House was just the perfect size for us. Two bedrooms that were private from the living area's and to each other as well.

Thanks again! :)

How about Timeout? It's a 2 BR with pool and hot tub - western sun exposure. I'm staying there next month and can give you an update when I return in March. http://www.vrbo.com/57926
