When I was in Greece, my sister and I were lounging on a beach and a local pulls up in his little boat. He has several octopus that he proceeds to "tenderize" on the a little cement pier. He pretty much grabbed the octopus and slammed them down on the cement. He then invited my sister and I to accompany him to a nearby rocky beach where he made a fire and cooked the octopus for us. It was totally FABULOUS. I'm a big calamari fan. Squid or octopus are yummy in my book. Love it with lots of fresh squeezed lemon.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I LOVE squid. It's just that this squid was a little off. It's my fault, I did not go to my usual place for the fish, I went to Whole Foods, which can be hit or miss.
Jayseedee, I usually go to the Legal Seafoods market in Chestnut Hill for my fish. But, as earlier stated, I was lazy and went to Whole Foods in Newton for this dinner. Everything was really fresh except for the squid. I thought it smelled a little tetchy when I was cleaning it, but I ignored it. Should have known better!

we stayed home too and here's a run down of our activites! food and otherwise!
we started around 3pm, we had some folks in for drinks. they were going out to dinner which we decided to pass on but invited them for a pre dinner cocktail. Charlie whipped up the 3 rum surprises and my one sister hates coconut so she got a mango martini
getting ready

3 rum surprise and a Don Schnell bowl

After the group left we had some stone crab claws and more drinks

We always take a walk through our town every year to check out people's lights. we hadn't gotten to it so we headed out last night for a walk.
Our house

Around town

Got thristy so we stopped in a pub downtown for a few Blue Moons

We headed home and played some dominos then around 10 we had prime rib sandwiches and some champagne.

Surprisingly all I woke up with this morning was a sore throat and no voice!
New Years brunch was baked eggs and Kiss of the Jumbie coffee. We opted to just go with the V8 and skip the Bloody Mary's this morning

Now I am officially done! No more food, drink, nothing! I want to go back to my regularly scheduled life please
Happy New Year everyone!

Well that's a funny one. I found a recipe I wanted to make but I did things a little differently then instructed. I had carmelized some onions and sauteed mushrooms and spinach yesterday morning that I saved to use on our prime rib sandwiches in the evening. I had a lot of that left over so I used that in my eggs this morning. Here's a link to the original recipe from EpicuriousCoden wrote:Before you go though, Mary Beth...may I please have the recipe for the baked egg dish?![]()
Happy New Year!!!!

since I had used the sautee pan the day before I just put my veggies in a shallow baking dish and put the eggs on top. I mixed my veggies this morning with a little half and half and some nutmeg and put that in the baking dish first.

I am with everyone else, I need a break! I've had off since Dec. 22 and have been cooking way too much rich food and drinking too much wine! I am eating soup for the next three weeks!
But, before that boring part, here are pictures of last night's New Year's Eve pizza party. I had planned a big foo foo appetizer thing with lots of champagne but after the giant seafood feast on Saturday I cut myself a break and decided to just make easy pizzas. I actually think the pizzas were a bigger hit than the appetizer menu would have been. Here they all are (except the sauasage one, which I apparently forgot to photo). Kid's pizza, pepperoni:

Kid's pizza, plain:

There was another plain pizza and a sausage one that I apparently forgot to take pictures of!
It was a fun party, everyone played charades and even sang karaoke! I am seriously done with entertaining and big cooking for a while though. This entire "vacation" John and I have only had two nights without overnight guests. I really need a break!
