another "newbie" with a villa question...

Post by Kathyzhere »

First off...Hey everyone. I've finally decided to join in after a long time of lurking and enjoying this forum. :) Thanks for all the informative and funny posts!

Wondering if anyone has any input on the Bourdeaux Mtn area and specifically Chateau Margot? Looks great, LOVE the idea of the "sprawl" of the living spaces and the rates are great.

A little bit about me...have stayed on STT twice and visited once via cruiseship. Most recent visit was July of 2007 and my next time is set for June 2008. We always visit STJ 1-2 times while there. We're currently planning a stay on STJ for Feb/March of 2009 with 5 other couples. Hope I'm not committed after starting this plan!!

Anyway, appreciate any input and it's great to finally participate on the forum.

I do not know the house but Bordeaux is a great area. You will get great breezes and the down island views are great.
That being said; what is your plan for this trip? If this is your first time staying on STJ, Bordeaux may be too far from Cruz Bay for you. Do you plan on eating in or going out every night? There are great restaurants in Coral Bay, but many more in Cruz Bay and after a few (or more) cocktails in town, the ride can be long.
If you are looking for a laid back trip, this is a great location but if you are into going out at night, you might want to consider staying closer to town.
It is all what you want out of your trip.

Do you plan on eating in or going out every night? Probably due to budget we will eat many dinners in and cocktails poolside. Great thing is that my DH doesn't drink...sooo the group has a DD!If you are looking for a laid back trip, this is a great location but if you are into going out at night, you might want to consider staying closer to town. Definately a "laid-back" bunch of people in our mid 40's thru late 50's. Not that we wouldn't venture out a few nights for dinner and partying. About how long of a drive from Bordeaux to Cruz Bay?
Thanks for your reply Xislandgirl.

Hey Kathy- Never been to Bordeaux but sumarry of what I've heard is- awesome views, isolated location, can get very damp due to location. I agree that villa looks great...

Not sure if you have seen these mapping tools before but they might help understand location and proximity to other things...

Hi Kathy,

We visited someone on the island who lives on Bordeaux Mtn. It was really lush, green and beautiful in that area. She pointed out Chateau Margot and said its a really nice villa with awesome views.

In April of this year, we stayed in a villa across from Bordeaux Mtn and had a view over towards it. We had many rainy, foggy days and Bordeaux Mtn was often in the rain and clouds. I have read a few trip reports over the years of people staying on the mountain and it was quite cool and their pool water was too cold to use. But it depends on the time of year and weather - I am sure it can be gorgeous up there. Just something to consider.

Kathyzhere, something to consider is that you'll lose the sun quite early in that spot. It's nice to be up there when the whether is hot. Bring a sweater.

Cheers, RickG

We were at Chateau Margot in June for 3 weeks and loved it. PM me with whatever questions you have and I'd be glad to answer.

Hi all,
Thanks so much for all the replies! You all commented on the weather which I really never considered as far as being on a mtn. We want to be able to use the pool for sure and enjoy sunsets...soooo I will keep on with the research. Maybe (2) 3 bdrm villas close to each other may be an alternative that will give more choices.
Thanks again guys, this forum is the best :)

Diana, I will be in touch, thanks.
