I can't help with the gift but you may need to add this to the Christmas Dinner Menu. From our blog.
The Pain Killer Home Kit

1 part cream of coconut, 2 part dark rum, 4 part pineapple juice, 1 part orange juice. I use a gallon jug, 48 oz can of pineapple juice, 12 oz of orange juice, 750 ML of Dark Cruzan Rum (it's about 25 oz - so close enough), 12 oz of Coco Lopez (the can is usually 15 oz, so I just use most of the can). Before adding the Coco Lopez, sit the can in a bowl of hot water, let it sit until it sounds liquefied when shaken. This keeps the little white specks of coconut from forming. Don't forget to garnish with fresh grated nutmeg. Enjoy!

PS You can get the nutmeg and grater shown above at St John Spice http://stjohnspice.com/

Wow, what a mess.
Was the lot you parked in while looking for a locksmith surrounded by half built pillars, and maybe there were some red trucks in the lot? That's Penns car rental. I can't believe they would behave like that though. Everyone I have dealt with there was so incredibly nice.
I hope you have a wonderful, RELAXING Christmas.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
They say you'll laugh about all of this someday - hopefully that time has already come because I think we all are - sorry
Honestly, you can't make up stuff like this, can you? I love the painkiller part - and I would have been right there with you!
As for your dad's gift - maybe one of those magnetic key boxes that attach to the underside of the body of the car - tell him "This is for your next trip".

Wow, I dont even know what to say. That was a HELLISH trip! I would have been in tears. There is not enough Xanax in the world to ease all that frustration. Im glad the painkillers helped. I too would have tried to break into the car to get my stuff (Xanax). Better luck with Christmas and the "chick no one has met", somehow I think that's gonna be a great story!
liamsaunt: You've got it. There were red trucks in the lot. Crazy man came out that side door. Very pleasant personality. I'm the feisty one in the family and If I hadn't been in a sardine can I would have jumped him. I'm only half kidding... Began thinking of what the headline would be in the ST.John Tradewinds...
captainjay: Thanks for the recipe. Buying a painkiller on a planes trains and automobiles trip is what I like to call "buying a sense of humor."
Ksea: As for the new chick (ugh). She has one strike bcs she married my brother. When I heard on the phone "Your brother got married and you have a new sister." I threw up a little in my mouth. I mean seriously. Who says that??
Still working on gag xmas gift.. will update with the dirt for all you people with more normal, "not as colorfull" families..LOL

Bluegirl,
Nearly choked on my grits this morning laughing at your plight. Those are the times you DON'T ask "what else can happen"???!!! Get your dad a very large hammer and label "FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY". Maybe a six pack of Bud too.
I too was in one of those far-off rooms at Very Secret Harbour, 2nd floor. Good thing no one had coronary disease because it was hellish climbing all those steps. I can't even imagine doing it with a baby. Will never stay at Secret Harbour again because of that.
As far as the new sister-in-law, perhaps it will all work out. My sister and I vacationed in Greece in 1983. She met a boy on the small island of Poros. He had never been out of Greece. Spoke a few words of English. They married in 1987. Celebrated their 20th this year. You never know.....
Merry Christmas.

Gift for dad idea- Travel emergency kit (island style)- wrap up a very large rock with a key attached by a string, a caribe beer and a tazer. Tell him if the key doesn't work, use the rock, if that doesn't work drink the beer and take the tazer with him to the locksmith, he'll have it all covered. Don't forget to give us a after xmas follow-up post about your gift and brother. Thanks for the laughs!
