Another Ipod question
Okay - the hubby spilled the beans and told me I'm getting my very first <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html? ... b></a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=car ... &l=ur2&o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt=""> for Christmas. Probably the nano with 4gb. I have no idea how these work and know alot of you are techies out there.
So, I am hoping to use it in my car, to work out with, and also to take to STJ for the car and the villa. WHAT DO I NEED?
I'm assuming a docking station, but are they portable and usable in a STJ rental vehicle as well as the villa?? Please help!

Hi Tracy, I have the hookup for my car, which is separate from my docking station. I then have an arm cuff for when working out. As far as I know, there's no one thing to cover all needs. The car hookup apparatus was about $95.00, the docking station was about $50.00 (at least that was the BJ price) and the arm cuff, minimal (maybe $20.00). Great gift; luv my i-pod. Ali~
STJ - I "get it"
Hi Tracy,
My husband never spills the beans
For your car, you'll need an FM-transmitter; basically allows you to play your iPod on a non-transmitting radio station - this would work fine in St. John.
As for docking station, I'm assuming you mean some type of external speaker? There are many out there; priced from $30 - $300. There are some that are portable and would travel well to St. John and allow you to have your music at the villa. I saw a neat set at the Apple Store - it zippered up - but I don't remember the make. I pointed it out to hubby - but not sure he got the clue and may need to go buy it after the holidays.
I also have a connection to my small home stereo; so I can play my ipod instead of CDs.
For working out (which isn't often or hard), I have a case for my ipod that clips onto my waistband - tons of those out there, as well.
For the beach at St. John, you may want to consider an Otter brand hard case.
You'll love it!

Janet - you probably saw the Roxy portable speaker case:jayseadee wrote: I saw a neat set at the Apple Store - it zippered up - but I don't remember the make.

It's a hard zippered case. You can get it at the Apple store for $99. I love it. I use it more than my Bose docking station.
I think it was the Quicksilver style; it wasn;t as colorful as the Roxy.
If Santa doesn't bring the one i saw, I think I'll get the Roxy - very cool.

Tracy - I love my Ipod. It is a 4G, lime green one. I got it from the Ipod refurb store. Also, all of my accessories like speakers and stuff, I pick up at Big Lots or the sell bins at W-M, places like that. My speakers I got for $2.40...yes, 2 dollars and 40 cents at Big Lots on a Sunday night when they had slashed all of the prices in the store and then gave another 20% off. I'm a thrifty girl and like the deals!!
Enjoy your Ipod!!

Vicki ... I take it that is battery powered and doesn't charge the ipod? If not, tell me now because I need it. I am replacing my round JBL speaker that I have for work (I have the bose sounddock at home too). I broke the connection on the jbl coming home from STJ. Or I should say the baggage handlers broke it for me. My fault really as I didn't wrap it up carefully enough.VickiH wrote:Janet - you probably saw the Roxy portable speaker case:jayseadee wrote: I saw a neat set at the Apple Store - it zippered up - but I don't remember the make.

I have the built-in car connector which I love, but pre-that I had the FM transmitter (it even went to STJ with me). I love my ipod! I got upgraded to my surprise by my hubby from the old school mini to the 80 gig photo ipod. All my music and all my pictures in one!
FF, it operates off 4 AA batteries (for when you want to take it to the beach or something) but also has an A/C adapter so you can plug it in to use w/o batteries (at your office) and recharge your iPod.flip-flop wrote:Vicki ... It's the cutest thing ever and sounds great.
You must have it.

Tracy - do yourself a favor and go to Itunes and download the latest version to your computer now. if you wait till Christmas day, you'll be fighting with millions of other people who got Ipods for Christmas and are all trying to download at the same time.
Last year, there were 3 new Ipods in our family on Christmas morning and it took a few days to download Itunes and purchase music (if that's what you want to do) due to the website being inundated with new users.

White screen of death!!!
I picked up my nearly new ipod Classic (my first ever, late adopter) and all I had was a white screen. I'm headed by the Apple store today and hope they can fix it . I went through the Apple recommended recovery process and no joy.
Our buddy Big Red has the round JBL sound dock and it does very nicely.
Cheers, RickG

Rick, just curious, are you a PC or Mac guy? I'm a PC person and my iPods are the only Apple products that I own, but I have a fair share of 3rd party iPod peripherals. I'm not a fan of the iTunes interface and song management so let me know what you think.RickG wrote:I picked up my nearly new ipod Classic (my first ever, late adopter) and all I had was a white screen. Congrats and good luck with your iPod.

Tracy,
When you add up my iPods and those belonging to our kids, we have 8 of them in this house, and every accessory you might imagine. Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions as you go along.
For what it's worth, we've had no problems with any of them. We use Macs, though, and that seems to help with the compatibility between the iPods and the computers.
I think you'll really like having an iPod. Marcia and I take mine with us to STJ every year. We have a STJ playlist that is about 13 hours long. We have a JBL speaker dock that we bring, too. Just slip the iPod into the speaker dock, set that bad boy by the pool at the villa, and you are set for music. It sure beats hauling down a boat load of CDs.

I'm both PC and Mac. I have a new Macbook Pro that I'm moving to. But, it has vmware and will be running Windows XP and Unix as well.Jerseyboy wrote:Rick, just curious, are you a PC or Mac guy? itunes sucks you in. The sync features are great. But, it pretty much forces you to create play lists in order to interactively build a list of songs to play. I miss winamp for every day use.

I'm not sure what you mean. When playing songs from the computer, you can find them by artist, album, song or genre just by clicking on one of those list headings. When listening from the iPod, you can do the same from the menu function. It seems pretty easy. What issues are you having with it? Just curious.RickG wrote:I'm both PC and Mac.
