We've had boat loads of snow here...and ice...and more snow and ya, more ice. We don't have a driveway, we have a "manageable access to the home." This has to be the whitest Christmas in a LONG time.

All this snow is pretty but it's a pain in the rear getting around in it. Yesterday we saw the sun!!! That was pretty cool. The only problem is that day light hours are so short that you don't really appreciate sunlight. Get up in the dark, go to work in the dark, leave work in the dark. It's perfect if you are a mushroom.

Maryanne, do post a pic of "your favorite neighbor"'s house. ; )

Ruth, loved the video on the Bongo guy's blog. Seriously, it's a whole new feel to Christmas with carols done Calypso style.

I have never missed my roach-infested Boston apartment featuring the six-foot high leaping dumpster rat more than tonight.

We moved to a town that abuts Boston some years ago for more space and family etc...but this commute was just ridiculous. Our car was parked at a station 2.5 miles from our home. Drive time from the station to our house (no highway, btw): 1.15 hours! Train we actually got on from the city...1.5 hours after the regularly scheduled time due to overcrowding. ARGH!

I would have more sympathy if 1. the trains had not been ridiculously late all week in perfect weather with no explanation (45 minutes late Monday, 30 minutes late Tuesday...) and 2. if it was actually snowing enough to warrant this behavior! I swear if there are four inches outside I would be surprised. Yet, there are accidents everywhere because people are not driving correctly in the snow. Come on people, we live in New England!! Learn how to drive in the snow! ARGH!!

PS: Maryanne, I am glad your daughter is safe. People were driving like crazy folks tonight.

Man I don't know how you all do it. I lived in the Boston area for a year in the 80's one winter and don't miss it. I lived in Amesbury and drove I95 to the turnpike to Watertown. That commute sucked in good weather.
Stay inside and stay warm. Looks like tommorow should be a snow day.

I sympathize with you. The driving has been really bad here all day. Four wheel drive or I wouldn't try it. It is the people who don't know how to drive even though they have lived here a good long time that make matters worse. According to the weather people here in Syracuse this is nothing. We have a nor'easter coming so I bet you might be a target, too.

That is why I love trip reports and the beautiful pictures of St. John-above water, below water, please more pics. I love Capt.Kirks Friday fix. It will get me through until April.

Oh, I am so embarrassed. Why did I say Captain Kirk when I meant Captain Jay? I'm sorry, CaptJay. I don't even like StarWars. I do love your pictures. Our camp is very close to Watertown, on Chaumont Bay. I am always amazed about what a small world it is.

I left work at noon and it still took almost 2 hours; the bulk was the last 5 miles.

Don decided to work late and hopefully miss the traffic - he left the office around 6:45pm (downtown boston), got to his car at the "T" station with little delay (~7:30pm) and still isn't home (normally 20 minutes without traffic).

Well, I've got the Jack Daniels all ready for him when he walks in.

And, there's another one coming in on Saturday -

Ruth - stay where you are for the next several months!!

I will say it seems sometimes the less snow, people drive worse and the traffic is even more hairy.......go figure

Here we are at about 9:30 pm and the snow has stopped in PVD. The local news is reporting that there are about 40 school buses with students aboard that have not completed their routes.

Police are on their way to the expected locations of the buses to see what they can do to get those kids to their homes.

The snow accumulations are from 5 to 9 inches over most of the area with up to 12 inches recorded in the NW corner of the state.

Maryanne - I remember the blizzard of 78. I was travelling on business to Uncasvile, Connecticut and got stranded trying to get to my hotel. Got picked up by a 4 wheel drive looking for straglers and took us to the police barracks. From there they took us all to the only hotel they could reach - the one I was staying at! I shared my room with a stranded trucker for 3 days until the roads were cleared. As I recall it was also called "Storm Larry".
Hope this isn't anything like that. Stay safe.
