WOW – what an incredible report. I can’t believe that after the hike to Ram Head, that you had the energy to go to the Westin for Flavors. But then – you’re one of the famous people now. I bet the Governor didn’t know that he was hob-knobbing with a “Pod Cast Personality”. Great report Flip Flop.

FF - that was a totally AWESOME description of the hike. All the while, its gorgeous but damn is it HOT! My husband and I did the hike in '04 and at the end, he proposed to me! We were there very early in the a.m. as well but it was really HOT (it was early May). When we got to the top and after he proposed we had to take a pic of ourselves - let me tell you - my face was LOBSTER RED ! I was thinking the same thing - was it sun or heat exhaustion....unfortunately, the later!

Anyway - love your reports and the pictures. But, by far, those kiddos of yours are so incredibly squeezably CUTE! Boy in the sink is PRICELESS!

Flip Flop: I am so glad to read your report about the hike! I am a total sucker for punishment when it comes to hikes, and I love feeling that sense of accomplishment!

I'm going to make my hubby read it too, because he sometimes tries to dial down my "let's get going already" mode in the morning, and it sounds like an early start is necessary. I might have the kids read it too. They love hiking too but not always the way I do! Since we're traveling with other families, maybe we'll do a kid swap. (Anyone ever done the hike with kids? Let me know!)

There was a couple about to do it when we were leaving (starting at 10am!) with 2 kids - one about 7 or 8 and one about 4 or so. She was going to put the little one in a backpack! NO way. I would be dead meat.

The kid swapping is a GREAT idea. We did that on our trip in '05 with another couple who had a 1 year old at the time. We watched him one day so they could go dinghying & they watched our girl so that we could do a daysail. It worked out wonderfully!

Oh, and I am totally an early riser on STJ. I like to get up and get going. Especially with the chance of rain while we were there 30-50% everyday, I figured if it was sunny it might not last so get out and get doing something.

Thanks FF! My kids are 9 and 11, and they're pretty sporty. (They've both done triathlons and things like that.) But when they're just with us, they also tend to get tired/bored more quickly than when we're doing a challenging activity with other kids. Best case: I'll do the hike first without them and decide if we all go again together.

As for kids in a backpack, the only things going in my backpack will be water and food!

I love the baby in the sink picture! It's been a looong time since mine fit in a sink!

Great report! I agree it is a VERY HOT HIKE!!!!! however I did do it in Flip Flops much to Nothintoloose's dismay! She was sure they were going to pop apart the whole hike! I made it and the views were indeed to die for! If I ever decide to do it again I will bring more water to pour over me though!!!!!

Certain things would have been much easier with him on the inside. Just think of all the extra space in our suitcases with no diapers There is no way I would have done Ram head pregnant. I was a clumsy walking disaster as it was.

Still, I would not have traded this trip for anything!
