Admittedly I am a travel junkie. I swear I start getting itchy britches if I don't have at least three trips planned in advance. This may also have something to do with the fact that I am a Saggitarius-- who knows?!?!
So, we leave for an 11 day trip to STJ on Dec. 1st. But I already started getting depressed about the return home, so I purchased our airline tix from London to Prague (we are already using Amex points for leg from DC to London via Virgin Atlantic upper class) yesterday! At least this way I know I have another trip planned just six months later.
Also we're already planning for STJ in 2009...
I guess this way I won't be so sad on the way home from STJ!!!
Do I need professional help? Or is this something that other folks do to keep from getting depressed after the Walk of Woe??

I had planned my first trip to STJ (this past October) for over a year. I had no idea what to expect, and I never really thought that I'd start planning the next trip when I'd only been on island for 29 hours. Pretty soon, I'll be all ready to go back. I think that's why I wasn't sad to leave really. I KNEW I'd be back, same time next year.
I love to travel, but I'm really not much for planning or structure, except that I am totally itching to pick a villa. Just mostly because I want to get one before all the good ones are gone, not really because I plan to make any plans for my trip before I leave home. It's a week of limin', although I will have to plan ahead for Ivan Time!

Linne,
This is our first trip to the Czech Republic. I grew up in Germany and Switzerland (age 3-10) and couldn't visit Czechloslovakia then-- now the Czech Republic. I've traveled throughout most of Western Europe and the UK. So this will be something new for child of the Cold War.
Hubby and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and staying at the Aria Hotel for 10 days. We'll include some day trips to Cesky Krumlov and surrounding areas. This includes a day of Tank driving for him!
We picked the Czech Republic because they are not yet on the Euro and we can get a better value for our money than elsewhere in Europe or the UK. The dollar SUCKs right now!
Any tips you can offer would be most welcome. Feel free to PM me.

Grommit,
I share your obsession.............. I always have to have a trip in the works......... I get all stressed out if I don't have a trip every 3-4 months max...
Even though we just booked St John for May, I know we can't make until then so I am looking for some place to go in late Jan/08.............
Wouldn't life be grand if we could live it with travel as our day jobs & work as our vacation..........Talk about a pipe dream

Grommit - I get it. Helps the budgeting etc. and when work asks for vacation blocks in Jan. you dont go "duh" but can score what you want.
Re your trip, maybe a side trip to Budapest should be considered if you havent been there. Thats on my must see (Europe) list.
We were just looking at the various European river cruises, but decided thats a better couples only thing that can wait a few years. We'll even fit the demographics better then!
In the mean time, thinking of a Paris to Milan trip (through Switzerland) in June 09.
Before then, AZ (Scottsdale/Sedona) for Easter, Nantucket in June, Pacific northwest (Seattle/Vancouver/San Juan Islands) in August 08. Thats as far as our trip planning goes for now.
The Holy Grail remains New Zealand with a stop in the South Pacific islands.

I am the same way. I enjoy the planning as well as learning about my destination (I am a reader) so way, way in advance planning helps me make the most out of the experience.
I am currently thinking about:
Possible southern trip for Summer 2008 - St. John, Turks and Caicos or Out Island Bahamas
Summer 2008 - work-related trip to New Orleans, Block Island for the 4th of July week
Winter 2009 - St. John or Turks and Caicos
Summer of 2009 - Iceland, Canada (Montreal or Quebec)
Summer of 2010 - UK or Guava Island
Weekend trips - Philly in January, DC in spring

Wah...wah...wah.....I want to go so many places! But hubby only wants to go SOUTH. All he thinks about is the Caribbean and for the last 3 years................STJ STJ STJ STJ!!!
But that's okay. Out of the 2 of us he's the hardest working so I go along with the program.........so to speak. One of these days we'll visit someplace new and exotic, but for now it's the Islands. And sadly if something happens between now and then and we never make it............well we've enjoyed EACH OTHER!!! NO REGRETS!

Happy travels to all!
