New gal on the forum

Post by cinnyb »

Hello everybody-Like others I've been reading alot, but saying nothing. My husband, 15 year old daughter and I are going to St. John in April. My son and his fiance are getting married there. It will only be us five.

We have only been to St. John once before in 2000. The fiance wasn't with us then. My other son died of cancer the year before and we felt like we needed a break in a place by water. We decided on St. John and it was perfect for us.

I think my son wanted to get married there because of that trip we had together. We always feel closest to our other son when we are on, in or near the water. He was quite the fisherman. So, I'm sure it will be wonderful, but bittersweet for all of us without him there.

We stayed at Cinnamon Bay in the cottages before and that was fine. This time in honor of the married-couple-to-be I have chosen two villas close together on the quiet east end. Well, that's enough for now. Thanks to all of you for so willingly sharing information and your love of St. John.

Welcome to the board! Glad you decided to introduce yourself. Congrats to your son on his upcoming wedding. St. John is the perfect place and will definitely add to the feeling of your other son being near during all of the wedding festivities. My husband lost his brother when they were both in their late teens and when we married two years ago it was important for him. Look forward to hearing more from you!

So awful sorry to hear of your loss. I'm certain that it WILL be bittersweet but also sure your son will be right there by your side.

We too are coming back to STJ after a couple year sabbatical vacationing in Maui.

My 65 year young mother just found out she has breast cancer. We decided it would be perfect to have mom and dad with us this time, as they are not getting any younger.

This is a way to really get together as a family unit away from the hectic lives we all lead the other weeks a year when we are not "home" on STJ.

I can't think of a more wonderful place for your son's wedding. It is nice to have a positive connection with a special place.

Share the details (should you can too) of the wedding planing because we all thrive on things like that!

May you only have blessing going forward.
St. John is a place to heal and also a place to remember. I am not sure who on the board but I remember someone scattered his wifes ashes.
I just think there is something so healing about being near the sea. Lord knows I can not make it without it.

Welcome from a new guy to the forum!

My wife and I got married in Grand Cayman on an old Spanish Gallion at sunset (the "Valhalla"). Wouldn't trade a single moment of it for any bit of a "traditional" church wedding. One helpful tip if you are videotaping it, make sure the video camera isn't pointing into the wind. The wind hitting the microphone makes it hard to hear the vows.

Also, I second Gromit's comment. There is a peace that comes over you.
A mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open.

Welcome to the Forum! I'm so sorry for your loss but agree with others that St. John is a truly peaceful healing place.

I was married there in 2001 so any wedding advice your son and fiance may need - I'm happy to help!
