I've got an idea for that old boat in Cruz Bay

Post by Gromit »

I was just watching Jeff's Beach break: "Cleaned Up Cruz Bay" and got an idea.

Around here in Northern Virginia a lot of the High Schools and Midde school's have a giant rock or a sculpture out front that is designed for graffiti.

That way if kids want to play a prank or get creative with their spare time they can take it out on that designated Rock or Sculpture. It sort of turns "Hells Angels" into "Heck's Angels".

Anyway-- that boat isn't going anywhere and IMHO it is just SCREAMING out to be pink!! Or some other outrageous Tie Dye design with a big Heart or Peace symbol on the sides!

I wonder if the local school kids or resident artists could make an art project out of it to turn it from an eyesore to a creative outlet?

Anyone on island who could make this suggestion?

Surely they wouldn't be breaking any laws since it's been essentially abandoned.

As PR professional I think it would also make a great story for the papers-- if anything it might get the owner to remember to come and get their damn boat!!

Essentially this project would make chicken soup out of chicken sh!t.

Any thoughts??!

Gromit,

It's an excellent idea! It would be so much fun to see it change - they could paint it a different theme every month or so - it would give the school kids a great way to vent their creative talent. Hopefully, your idea will make it to someone who can influence change.

As long as they could paint it, or on it, without a lot of paint getting in the water...

I always wondered why it wasn't used to form an artificial reef somewhere or used to stabilize a reef that is damaged by ground swell erosion. Maybe it could be painted first then towed out and sank. It would make a nice snorkel attraction on the outer edge of Cinnamon Bay. A tie-dyed coral encrusted shipwreck with ray and turtles swimming through it.
