Having a very bad week-- need a forum warm fuzzy!
Aw, screw you, Gromit! At least you got a trip planned. Me? I'm sufferin' from a serious case of the one's this year. "One's" as in Washington's, not Hamilton's, Franklin's or even Jackson's! But, when you get back to the D.C. area it will probably be so damned cold that the all of the lawyers in this town will probably have their hands in their own pockets! So, Girl, suck it up and think vulgar and decadent thoughts!
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.

WOW! You have got to feel the love. How cool, that so many people are sending good thoughts your way. Just try to redirect your thoughts to seeing just how many wonderful people there are out there. Unfortunately, the bad one's sometimes are good at getting us down. Kenny C's Be as You Are in your car or at home loud enough to drowned out your thoughts usually works for me. STJ pictures and cocktails work too. Hang in there. You are almost home!
Negative nellies are an excuse for me to kill them with kindness till I can make them smile with me! It is a challenge for me some days but I love it when it works!
If it isn't mean and rude people and it is the one thing after another kind of day I try to think how much worse it could be (mind you I NEVER say it can't get any worse!) and then I realize that maybe it isn't life threatning so I can get through it.
Hugs from me to have a great night! The day is over by now!

Gromit,
I know how you feel. I deal with the same kind of people at my new job.I have been on a "work to hire" status since last July and only this week got hired in. It has especially been hard on Island Girl because we cannot make any trip plans right now and she's goin nuts !! We both miss St.John and our friends so much it hurts. Anyway, here's what we try to do to keep sane...listen to V.I.radio...read the Forum..listen to Inner Visions..look at vacation pics..if all else fails,OPEN UP A GOOD OLD FASIONED CAN OF WHUPA** ON EM !!!
Hang in there...you'll be on Island soon!!

Gosh Gromit, sorry to hear of your woes. But the bright side is St John soon come.
Lots of forum advice: booze, chocolate, shopping, humor and even some violence.
I guess the bottom line is to do whatever will take your mind off of the situation that is troubling.
Here's a hug from me (((((((((((((HUG))))))))))))
and a bit of humor . . .
There's this blond out for a walk. She comes to a river and sees another blonde on the opposite bank. "Yoo-hoo!" she shouts, "How can I get to the
other side?" The second blonde looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, "You ARE on the other side."

For dealing with a tough day:
Step 1) Put on a little Kenny Chesney (Songs from an Old Blue Chair) - most of you probably know but the album is about St John or put on just about any Jimmy Buffet album.
Step 2) Check the weather forecast for St John at http://stjohnrental.com/stjohnrental/weather.cfm and/or the web-cam in Cruz Bay at http://www.gotostjohn.com/live/index.htm
Step 3) Check the latest ticket prices and the number of frequent flyer miles I have left (or figure out how long it will take me to row a boat from Philadelphia)
Step 4) Grab a Red Stripe or Presidente (Truthfully, this is usually step 1)
Step 5) Check my 401K, pension plan, and days to retirement
Step 6) Smile and plan my exit strategy!
Cheer up!

I guess we all have different strategies. I haven't fully given in to being back in my regular everyday life. I'm still glowing from our pleasant memories from our recent trip to VG (and still immersing myself in editing all the photos). As pleasant as it is, I guess I'd rather be looking forward to the trip rather than looking back on it.
Also---we have one friend who's currently having chemo treatments for esophageal cancer and my brother recently had surgery for a melanoma (seems to not have metastasized, so prognosis is pretty good). Talking with them helps me to keep my "bad days" in perspective. They've both faced their situations with remarkably positive attitudes. So I'm generally feeling pretty grateful for my life as it is.
