Couple of new things -

Post by Anthony »

Starting today you will notice in the left hand column:

<---------- Look over thataway -

The last 10 topics posted posted (new topics, not replies), and below that, a list of who is on island at the moment (or coming soon).

The last 10 makes it easy to see what is new - as some times popular posts can clutter the top of the forum.

What do you think?

Nice Mod.

I just noticed the RSS feed as well. Also nice.

I don't want to seem like a complainer, but I'd love to subscribe to the RSS feed, and I also access the site daily using my Smartphone (as the live limin' posts show) but at times i get clutterd up by WAY off topic posts. Under VIOL forum index we currently have U.S. Virgin Islands Travel Forum, and U.S. Virgin Islands News & Relocation Forum. Would it be possible to add a 3rd forum for all our forum friends to post threads that have nothing to do with USVI travel? It may take a bit to get used to, but it's an easy fix.

I think it is great!!

What does Subscribe to this Feed mean?

Also, the Headlines by Feedburner. Am I supposed to click on those? Or, are the Topics and who's on Island the Headlines?

Don't mean to be stupid. :)

Subscribe to this feed refers to RSS. RSS feeds are a really simple way to get forum info deliverd to your desktop, email, phone, etc. All you need is an RSS type reader on whatever device you want the info sent to, and then subscribe.

You will notice the RSS icon....

...on LOADS of your favorite news and info sites, as well as some others. It can be really handy if you are not currently web browsing.

<------------- That clutters up my view a bit but I can get used to anything.
I see I'm not on the calendar though....hmmmm... I was there previously. I wonder what happened.
Going off to check.

I could try it - but when we have even floated the idea in the past there was always a lot of resistance to such... what do others think?

That is just a promo for Feedburner, who provides the service. You don't have to click it -

I think MrB provided an answer for the general RSS question. Maybe Rick will chime in to.

As long as he does not lapse into a dissertation on Really Simple Syndication and the benifits of providing users with multipile forms of content, or the ease of Extensible Markup Language paired with a Reflective Programming Language based site!!

I am glad that you clarified that. I was wondering if I had stumbled on to a board that does not use English as a primary language.

now the list is showing people who have already been on island. Neeners and RickG have been there, done that, writing the trip reports as we speak :)

Sometimes I think it might be nice to have a separate section for OT posts. Some sort of easy link on the regular forum. I tend to get lost in off topics sometimes when all I'm looking for is a villa suggestion or whatever (even my OWN OT's!!) I'd be happy to post OT's in another section.

Didn't realize there was a question here. OOPS. doesn't matter to me as most boards I visit have an "off topic" section.

I vote "no" for the separate forum. I think its pretty easy to spot the o/t subjects within this forum. Very easy to just skip over what subjects don't interest you. Also, many times travel topics turn into something entirely different as people leave their comments. It just happens. JMO
