A daysail on local waters or better yet over to the BVIs is a worthwhile splurge. If that interests you, folks here will advise of their favs. Our choice would be Capt Clark on White Wing. You really get your $ worth with him because he'll check you back into customs the next day, so no rush to get back on the day of the sail.
On the photography side, awesome stuff on your webpage. Wow - Africa and Greek isles = 2 dream destinations. St. John will be a walk in the park by comparison.
Good suggestions in above posts on STJ hikes for land based photo ops. Will you be doing underwater photography?

You'll be in a very nice part of the island. Your cottage is quite near Maho Bay camps. There's a restaurant there and a small store. You don't need to be staying at Maho to eat in the restaurant or shop in the store. The restaurant serves breakfasts and dinners. It's very casual and has one of the best locations on the island.
Wow, thanks for the nice welcome & all the excellent tips so far on restaurants, shops, etc. -- we are adding to our already lengthy "to do on STJ" list! You all are great.
So we will wait to pick up beer, wine, munchies, etc. until we get to STJ, especially now that there's a fancy new gourmet shop (yum, cheese...).
I had never even heard of the "neat sheet" before -- I learn something new here every day.
Thanks for the compliments on our pics from past trips. Yes, my husband has an underwater camera, so I hope we are able to get at least a few shots with that, if we luck out with the weather & visibility. (I'm amazed at some of the underwater pics people here have posted.)
Adding band-aids & anti-itch spray to our packing list...

Forgot to mention all time best casual eats for us is lunch or brunch at Sun Dog Cafe in heart of Mongoose Junction (they don’t do dinner).
In fact, we enjoy taking a break from sun or early activity to have late lunch as the big meal of the day there or at a place like The Balcony (good strategy for budget and high season crowds), then back out to beach with drinks to enjoy magic hour lighting and/or sunset photography (bring lotsa bug juice for dusk).
Then back to villa to chill out with wine/cheese or clean up and go out for apps and drinks at a place like Rhumblines. OK I have to stop now or I will start checking airfares...

A couple of other good places to eat that I don't see mentioned yet are Aqua Bistro in Coral Bay (open for lunch and dinner), and if you like smoothies, there is a really yummy smoothie truck located at the intersection of North Shore and Centerline Roads.
A product I would recommend taking is the benadryl spray--it works really well on easing the itching of the bug bites, and it is small enough that you can pack it into your quart sized ziploc
. Keep it in the fridge for extra soothing relief.
