Yay St. John gets hit just a few days before we arrive. Hopefully this means all of them will be DEAD.

Did I mention lately LESS THAN 2 weeks now!

I found out about it in the paper  (see link)

I don't think they do it very often at all (I only remember maybe once last year :? ) just after alot of rain which we have had last week.

If what they spray is what they use here, it doesn't kill the mosquitos it lays a film of oil on exposed standing water that doesn't let any further eggs from hatching.

All I can say is whatever they use here REALLY works!

After Katrina, they even flew over with it. Whenever the mosquito trucks are coming, Rudy, my dog, and I run inside

I can only imagine what the mosquitos would be like if they didn't do it. After all, the mosquito IS our unofficial state bird

Just make sure all doors and windows are closed during the fogging. Several years ago in Grenada a friend kept his window open and many, many mosquitos "escaped" the fogging by going into his room.

They used to drive around with a truck that shot out a fog of this. As kids we rode our bikes behind and I think I wouldn't be here if it was an insecticide :D I asked once and that's what I was told. I haven't seen them do this in many years though. I know mosquito control still goes around spraying the surface of flood areas with this oil.

Eric - that's the same thing people here say about those trucks when they were kids. I don't remember doing that...maybe it was the chemicals

Pia - Does that mean that the mosquitos will not be bad next week when we are there since they are not starting the fogging until 11/11????

Hey jdw

I don't know about next week but I can't go outside now (they LOVE me) with out getting a few bites :(

They are no where near the swarms we had earlier in the year (yet) but it usually takes 7-10 days after the rain stops for them to be out in full force. Last "heavy" rain was on Sunday so somewhere between 11-4 and 11-7 they will start to be out :(

I guess even the "foggers" are "on island time" :)
