Coral Bay/East End Villa close to/on beach?
Coral Bay/East End Villa close to/on beach?
My brother got very excited hearing about our recent STJ visit. He said that he and his wife would like to visit the island next year at the same time we do.
He's expressed interest in them staying in a villa different from where we stay. They have really been getting into kayaking the rivers in north Florida recently, and would like to find somewhere that they'd be able to get up in the morning and get into the water as quickly as possible for a paddle.
They probably don't see a pool as a must have, but would likely see a hot tub as a big plus. They wouldn't be looking for a laviously furnished place neccessarily.
Have any of you stayed in/seen a place that you think might be a good fit for them?
Thanks!

HI Augie, Thanks for your recent trip report.
Check this out, I have no idea where Johnston Bay is but this one comes w/ a kayak. 1 bedroom and not expensive.

Also, google st john villa kayak and you will get several returns.

Hi Augie, this one is a little pricy but the rate stays the same for 1-6 guests, so if they were going in a group it might be a good choice...it has kayaks:

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I love the look of Forts Cove, the villa Liamsaunt suggested. Another option--also not cheap, but East End, oceanfront and including three kayaks---is Coral Point Beach House. I'd be very jealous if you stay there---I've been dreaming about it for awhile:

Pebble Cove is a less expensive East End waterfront option.

Spindrift (or maybe it is Spendrift), Calypso Cove, and Bel Mar are all on the water and I know at least one came (at the time we were villa rental shopping) with kayaks.
Spindrift is in Coral Bay, opposite side of the bay from the Shipwreck.
My husband is insane about staying on the water so I am looking forward to the results.

I love that villa too! The only thing holding me back is that it is so open, and I wonder how buggy it gets at night in the rooms without screens. It is gorgeous though.iowaguy wrote:I love the look of Forts Cove, the villa Liamsaunt suggested. I really only wanted a villa walking distance to the water, but that had to change when our group grew to 10. Here are some that I was looking at when it was just 4 of us; all are right on the water or a short walk (according to their descriptions):
Cameron Cove
Calypso Cove (might come with kayaks?)
Coral Cove
Villa Mollo
St John By the Bay
Lille Paradise (walk to Kiddle)
Sea Spirit
Carnival
The Retreat (East End)
Ananas (5 min walk to Johnson Bay)
Mampoo Hill (on Devers Bay)
These are all over the island (Coral Bay, East End...) I was just trying to avoid Cruz Bay so I don't think any are there. Let me know if you need links to any of these. I have a long list!

chicagoans,
I didn't realize that your group grew to 10. When did that happen? I thought it was you two and your kids. Do you mind me asking, where are you staying? I'm always looking for villas outside of Coral Bay, for larger groups. PM me if you want. Thanks!
BTW, as far as the original question goes Augie ... I thought I would have something to suggest, but all of my ideas have been mentioned. There are some great options!

...I forgot Carribean Cove, Point of View, and Kiddle Bay Cottage.
kygirl: The growing group happened way back in Feb. We were all set with a verbal hold on Lille Paradis, which looked perfect for my family of 4. Then some of our friends (a family with one boy) said they wanted to join us, so my villa search expanded. Just when I had a list of villas to fit 7, another family asked to join us! (They also have one boy.) So, new search, villa for 10, trying to find something affordable during the holidays... we are staying at Starlit Escape. I am very excited! It will work out great: each couple has a room with a bathroom, then the boys share a room, and my son and daughter will share a room. My 11 y.o. daughter is probably the only one not thrilled, since she'll be surrounded by boys age 9, 11, and 13. (Someday she'll appreciate it!)
I'm delighted because the other families are guys I was great friends with in my single days, who married wonderful fun women, and we all get along great. One couple is N. side of Chicago, but the other one is in CO now so it will be especially fun to see them!
Because of the holiday prices and because I didn't want to be in Cruz Bay, we were fairly limited in what I could find. For a big group, here are others I looked at that are close to the water: La Barracuda, Wood Rose Cottages combo (combine the cottage plus the upper and lower units.) There were a few others that were already booked back in Feb for a December stay. PM me if you want more info about Starlit Escape. The owners seem very nice.

chicagoans,
Oops, I meant outside of Cruz Bay, not Coral Bay. (I love Coral Bay.) I hope that you realized what I meant. It's funny how your group can grow like that! We still aren't sure how many we have with us in June. Only 2 couples have purchased plane tickets so far, but we have 3 more couples interested. We booked a villa that we will be happy with if there are 2, 4, or 10. I will have to check out the villas that you mentioned too, for future trips. We want to take our kids with us sometime soon!
