Thanks for another St. John fix! We had a great snorkel at Hawksnest on a rainy day our last trip. We saw the huge school of tangs another poster mentioned.
I was glad to see your pics of Salt Pond and Blue Cobblestone. We didn't make it there last trip and it's on our list for the spring. How is the hike from Salt Pond to Blue Cobblestone?

Yes, I am VERY tired today! Everyone is, though...we are all walking around the office like zombies! Check out the photo I am using as my screensaver:

Nicolle, the hike from Salt Pond to Blue Cobblestone is a little hilly but not particularly difficult. I would estimate that it takes about 20 minutes to get there. I actually hate the hike from Salt Pond Bay back up to the parking lot the most.

Thanx for the photo. You are so sweet to post it for me & right away, no less! Isn't that porcupinefish the cutest thing? One that we saw - we swear - actually was just looking at us straight in the eyes. His face just looked like a little puppy, with the most expressive eyes. We just thought that they were really cute (We actually saw 2 relatively close together.) Actually off of the beach at Secret Harbour on St. Thomas.
LOVE the sox caps with that beautiful blue water in the background! Bet that they are hopping at Skinny's!!

I bet you have answered this some time b4, but how many times have you been to STJ? Was STJ your first snorkeling experience?
The reason I ask is you really like to snorkel and your TR are pretty much food and snorkeling......My bro in law would love you.......throw in some after dinner apertifs and you would be the couple he and my sis would vacation with..........lol
As I have said b4, I love how detailed your TR's are and how gorgeous your pics are........

Another great installment, with more excellent pictures! I have a question, though... do you wear a weight belt when you snorkel? I have tried my damnedest to dive down even a few feet and I'm always bobbing back up to the top before I even get down to where I want to be! I just can't seem to stay under more than a foot or two! I know Bob & Anita wear light weight belts, so I was just wondering if you do too. Glad you got back to the surface with no major ill-effects! We would sorely miss your food porn! LOL

This was our 6th trip to St. John. We started coming in 2003. I actually started snorkeling in high school--we used to take family trips to Bermuda and snorkel there. I used to scuba dive also, but I stopped a few years ago because John can't dive. He has sinus issues that make it really tough for him to equalize his ears.
Oh, and we are about the apertif/digestivs too

I used to think I wanted one, but I've gotten good at free diving and I am able to stabilize myself under water long enough to take photos and check things out without it. I still might give one a try next trip, I bet it would make picture taking even easier.

Thanks........well if I can get my bro in law to want to take a moment away from cycling to head to STJ.....I tell him he can cycle there too.
I had just wondered if maybe you grew up snorkeling. Then I figure you must be from New England and not much snorkeling going on up there.
My friend Patsy is from VT and she loves it when she was on STJ...

After seeing your pics, Blue Cobblestone is a MUST for the next trip! I think I have been there, but am not absolutely sure. On the Ram Head hike, is it the beach you hit about 1/3 of the way up? I remember happening across a stoney beach on the way up to Ram Head. I remember that the trail entered the beach and then we had to look for the rest of the trail (marked with a pile of rocks at the time) in order to continue - does that sound like the same place?
Great screensaver too! I have a similar pic of my Sox cap on a branch at Solomon Beach.
