I have to admit that I have never been to Water island. The QM2 used to have to park right next to it though because she couldn't get into the harbor.

I remember my friend, who lived on STT for years, telling me that people lived on Water island but that there were zero services there and they even had take out the garbage by taking it with them when they left the island to head for STT.

I guess if you're REALLY low maintenance and don't mid ferrying back and forth to get stuff then this would be an interesting option.

But I'll be honest, I've NEVER heard of anyone staying there for vacay. Not to say it isn't done, just never heard anyone mention it before.
*Another fine scatterbrained production

Water Island is pretty cool for a day trip if you are looking for new things to do in the VI. There is tiny boat that goes back and forth to Water Island from Crown Bay Marina near Tickles restaurant. There is a nice beach, Honeymoon, within walking distance once you are there. There is also some newer camping like accommodation too. I will try to dig up some more info - I know I have it in my emails somewhere.

Yes, I spent a day there this past April and fell in Love with the island. Getting to it from the Crown Bay dock via the ferry is extremely simple.

We spent the day at Honeymoon Beach, which we walked to from the dock area. We then swam, drank, ate, and swam, drank, and ate some more and the entire day away.

A woman comes to the beach and serves grilled food and drinks. It was a lovely day and I hope the island doesn't get too overrun.

SHHHH.

Be very quiet. Honeymoon beach is the best kept secret in St Thomas and you should not be discussing this in an open forum. Anthony please close this thread and delete it before people find out about the beach.

Also please don't mention Heidi's Honeymoon grill as the food is good and the service is great. We should also not talk about it being a good anchorage. Nor should anyone mention movie night on the beach. We would not want anyone to go over there and build one of those huge condo complexes.

Jay

PS I have also heard good things about Pirates Ridge Deli as well but we shouldn't mention that either.

I love the newest Virgin Island

Post by Teresa »

My first trip to Water Island was with my three kids. I felt like I was 'seeing a man about a dog'. I was told to go to Crown Bay Marina to find the ferry to WI. I was also told to ask the bartender at Tickles to point to the ferry boat and captain. I did that and he pointed in the direction of all the boats. I didn't want to look stupid so I walked around the whole dock looking stupid. Finally I came back to the bartender and saw the ferry at the same time with a little sign that had the dates and times of the ferry, but was told he ran whenever anyone needed him give or take... Anyway we spent the day on WI and had a blast. I met a friend who had a homeschool group there and a little one room school house. To live there you have to have a boat (IMO) and many if not all do. Anyway, a day trip is highly recommended to WI, but if anyone asks, I made this all up.
