I don't think Willie has done time, but yes, he went many years without paying his taxes too.

I still support Willie, so I guess I could support Alan. (Although I'm pretty sure Willie just didn't pay rather than filing false returns.) However, I'm sure that Alan will lose his restaurant over this.

I really love the place and I want it to be there when I get back. And I want it to be like it is now.

Maybe if we all throw a little in the kitty, but I'm saying it's out of our price range if Alan owes $600,000 in back taxes.

too bad a villa does not go in with the purchase of BB.....since Alan (as far as I know) still lives above BB......
now that I look at it as him filing falsely instead of just paying he is far more a crook then Willie could ever be......maybe Willie should buy it that would be cool................

How can someone mount up that much in back taxes? He would have had to have revenue of at least twice as much. Three times, even.

I'm not positive that Willie's income has every really recovered from his dalliances with the IRS. However, he did make a country CD to pay his taxes.

Maybe someone could make a country CD to save The Beach Bar. It'd have to be kind of island-y to reach the target audience, I think. I'd probably buy it.

Steve Simon (he does the Sunday Jazz at BB) is a big well know musician on island. He started the St. John Blues festival in Feb and I think it is on its 5 yrs this Feb. He would be the one to compile a CD and sell it........that is a really good idea

For some reason I don't think that Steve Simon has the same name recognition as Willy Nelson. However, that being said, it might work if the CD is priced at $150.00 each. Maybe!!!

Steve may not have the same recognition as Willie, but he has alot more then people think.
I just think that it would not hurt to have a CD like Lulu said.
Of course none of us know if it will even come to that.
Maybe Alan will serve time and the BB will just go on as regular with someone else manning the books......

It says in the article that he'll relinquish the property involved in the offense to the IRS. He is going to jail for cooking The Beach Bar's books. To me that sounds like the federal government is about to become the owners of TBB.

So, let's hope someone cool who gets it buys it, because I don't think they'll have auditors with suits and briefcases mixing up our bushwackers.

I hope nothing changes, but it doesn't sound good to me. All I can think of is the visions of Panini Beach all torn up and pray that TBB stays just as is with the same great folks behind the bar and my precious tuna bites on the menu.

I know of at least one country star that lives there, and plays there, that doesn't even need to make a CD to help. Now is your chance to harass him!! Maybe it can become his newest hang out. No shoes, no shirts, no problem!

I have been quiet on this, but I have to say that as much as I love the Beach Bar and the people that work there, I would never buy a cd or attend a benefit to help someone keep their business after they admitted to committing a crime.
I know that it was not a violent crime against a person or animal, but still he committed a crime.

I am fairly sure that any musician with a multo million dollar recording contract and a business manager would not participate either. I can just see the tabloid headlines:
"No shoes, No Shirt, No Taxes, No problem"

Oh, I don't want anyone to misunderstand me. I don't want to raise money to help him keep his business. I think that people who knowingly defraud the government and/or their consumers, stockholders, etc. should not be allowed to have businesses. I haven't bought anything from Martha Stewart since her little dalliances.

However, I love The Beach Bar. My suggestion of a CD (which was totally tongue in cheek and was a jab at the little man with the big hat), was for all of US to save the Beach Bar. We like it, and if there were gobs of money sitting around, I'd buy it. Since I doubt that any of us are wealthy enough to pick up the tab, I thought maybe fundraising was the answer.

Just to save The Beach Bar, not its owner.
