I think Alan will have to serve time. however Cat (his wife and a musician) could manage Beach bar.
She has been there 4ever.
I just hope he does not lose the business, like Lulu says have someone else buy it and I have a feeling it may be someone who loves the islands as much as we all do...............

I actually hope he loses the business. Even with his wife running the business while he sits, I'd be hesitant to spend my money there. Although she may not have known what was going on, I would think she definitely enjoyed the 'stuff' that came with extra cash.designbyroe wrote:I think Alan will have to serve time. however Cat (his wife and a musician) could manage Beach bar.

My hope would be that someone buy the bar in a fire sale and just keeps it the same as it is.

As lulu was posting (I think it was her) he owes I think about 400 or 600K, he would pretty much need to sell the business I would think. My point was Cat has been there along time and she could run it for whomever buys it.promoguy wrote:I actually hope he loses the business. It was like when Todd and Chadd took over Woody's from Woody they did not change much they just enhanced it.........
I met a guy here in Nashville who worked for Woody when he owned Woody's. He said the exact same thing: Chad and Todd didn't try to fix something that wasn't broken, but they did make improvements so it was even better.
I just hope that whoever buys The Beach Bar does the same. I absolutely love that place, and my visa statement that I got in the mail the other day proves it. I probably spent more money there than any other place on island.
I don't see how he can keep it, and I'm just worried that we'll lose it. Development is getting so crazy down on STJ.

Beach Bar has so much that the locals and tourists like. Between Sunday jazz and other live music, the locale and the food and drinks it is a good place for a business. I just can not see someone (who loves it and has $$$ not helping)
Alan may have made a mistake (we all do) I may be naive and idealistic but he could very well be sorry for this mistake and does not want to lose that business and all it has brought.
So someone who has $$$ buys it.
There are alot of business people on STJ that do have $$$ and enough people who visit enough that could afford to buy it I bet and have the same people there run it

Please tell me you forgot to put a smiley next to that comment.
THE GUY WAS STEALING AND IS A CROOK. He did not make a mistake.
Please, as much as you want the Beach Bar to survive let it have nothing to do with a CROOK.

If you somehow forgot that April 15 was tax day and didn't send a check, that'd be an innocent accident.
If you have two sets of books and misrepresent your income to avoid paying income tax, then you're just a criminal and need to go to jail, regardless of your reasoning behind it.
And that should tick us all of, because not only do we spend our hard-earned money at this person's establishment, but the money we pay Uncle Sam goes up to cover everyone who's getting out of paying.

I want the BB to survive as I like the music they have and the locale and the people that work there like Boo and Michelle. I love Cat and I love her guitar playing.promoguy wrote:"Alan may have made a mistake (we all do) I may be naive and idealistic but he could very well be sorry for this mistake and does not want to lose that business and all it has brought. I have no idea what went on with Alan and his books, neither does anyone UNless they are Alan.
I am not here to judge him. I was just making a point that I hope someones buys the BB if they have to sell it and keeps it the same way it is......that was my ONLY point.......

true, there also is 2 sides to every story and I have not read or heard Alans....
I knew about this in 2005 when they raided the BB.
I also know Tradewinds and they do get the facts for their stories before printing heresay.
I am not saying Alan did not commit a crime.
I was just saying I do not think BB should be lost 'cause of that.
I went back and reread the article posted here because I thought I was missing something.
He plead guilty. This was the lead to the article:
I'm sure if I knew him, I'd think he was a great guy. However, I've known other great guys who have gone to jail for not paying their taxes. Pete Rose, for example.

Once you plead guilty, it doesn't matter what your story is. Your presumption of innocence is gone. Regardless of his rationale for it, this guy has admitted to wrongdoing, and that's how it is. For better or for worse.Beach Bar owner Allan MacPhee pleaded guilty last week to four counts of a 20-count indictment charging him with filing false tax returns and structuring.
MacPhee pleaded guilty to charges of willfully filing a false U.S. self-employment tax return, willfully filing a false U.S. individual income tax return, willfully filing a false gross receipts monthly tax return and structuring currency transactions to avoid reporting requirements.

heck Willie Nelson is a great guy and he owed the IRS way more then Alan.
You are right Lulu he did plead guilty so he has admitted fault.
I am back to my original position though, I just want BB to stay and have someone buy it and let it stay BB.
I am pretty much thinking Alan will have to sell the business to pay the IRS
