Just got my confirmation from St John Cars!

Post by chicagoans »

I reserved our car with St John Car Rental months ago via fax and had confirmed via phone to make sure they had what they needed; then I pretty much stopped thinking about it. Out of the blue today I got a fax from them to confirm. I was pleased that they would be proactive and on top of things, considering our trip is 2 months out. I thought I'd post because on occassion there are questions about car rentals.

On a chilly day their fax is a nice reminder that vacation soon come!

Me too. I thought this was a bit unusual. I've been renting from them for years and this is the FIRST time I rec'd this kind of confirmation. We are 37or 38 days out -- I think? I'll check my ticker when this message posts).

Funny!

Not sure what the deal is with them, but you all should double check, if you don't (or do) get the confirmation.

Wow taht's odd. Judging by the form-- they are going to charge you if you don't contact them.

So i would e-mail them to be safe.

Why did you cancel?

Maybe they have a new fax machine and want to test it out today!

You know, for the first time in three years, they actually charged my Amex for the Feb 2008 deposit.

Also, they did email me with a question about my faxed rental form.

Gromit,
I cancelled because they couldn't handle my late arrival. I'm going straight over to Concordia (Coral Bay) and I couldn't just taxi to the villa and pick up in the morning. So, we went with Courtesy and set up for late pickup with no problem. I'm sure they are a fine rental place, just didn't work out in our situation.

Maybe they are tight on rentals and want to make sure that there aren't any cancellations??

They charged us a deposit too when we made our reservations last spring for the trip we took two weeks ago.

I had reserved a grand vitarra back in February or March for our trip this November. A couple of weeks back I called and asked them if I could switch to a jeep instead. They said sure as long as I faxed them with the request. Well, A few days later, I called my villa management company who originally took care of the reservation for me and they called St John Car Rentals and requested the change and they told them that they had no jeeps left and they don't even have the Grand Vitarra anymore! At that point I called ST john Car Rental and they said the whole fleet of Grand Vitarra's they had were sold off and were no longer available. ????????? I found another rental company that could rent me a jeep and ST John Car Rental said they would refund the deposit of $100. I'm waiting for my credit card bill to see if the deposit is deducted this month.

They don't have grand vitaras anymore. I noticed that when we were there. I think we originally requested a grand vitara, but they changed it to a jeep when they sold off their fleet. Odd they didn't do that for you too.

Hey guys, I just e-mailed Lonnie (owner of STJ car rental) and asked her to give us all an update on what's going on with the sudden faxes and issues with the rentals. As soon as she e-mails me I will post her response.

For waht its worth, I've been renting from her since 1998 and never encountered any probs.

From their web site it looks like they did get rid of the Vitaras-- maybe they were having issues with maintenance in that environment-- who knows?

Nonetheless, They are good people and I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation and solution to these issues-- stay tuned!
