I word about the RB Hike - don't do it
If you really want to go with your newbie friends have them do it with you on the day of the Park Ranger hike. It will be great information for them and you and if they are board at the slow pace they can just go ahead on their own and meet you all at the bottom. You can then take the boat back with the Rangers and they can hike it up and catch the bus back to town or hitch a ride - yes it is perfectly safe to do so just have them point the direction of town and not use their thumb (but you knew that
) because unless you are used to exercising (and even if you are) the hike back up, especially the last 1/4 mile is a killer and if you were dreading the flat Waterlemon hike which really is a stroll not a hike
I'd love to meet you in town after your RBH and buy you a beer...or three
