Slightly OT- Holiday Exchange

Post by Xislandgirl »

I am on a number of message boards (surprise, surprise) and it has started. The annual Holiday ornament/gift/card exchange.

I was wondering if anyone was interested in doing some sort of Holiday exchange. I usually use a great site called elfster.com It sets everything up for you and is super easy.
I thought it might be fun to do an island themed either ornament or gift exchange under $10.

Just a thought. I have attached a poll, so please respond and if there are enough people that are interested, then I will post the link.

Call me the Grinch. I love you guys, really, I do. I share all kinds of things USVI related with you all, but DANG! I have a gift exchange at work, four kids, a husbnd, parents, siblings, neices, nephews, friends, mail carrier, garbage people, newspaper carriers (we get two papers)...etc...you get the point.

I love the spirit of the whole thing but, you have to be kidding about this, right?

I am actually not kidding at all.

I have been involoved in several ornament exchanges over the past few years with other message boards and I have always enjoyed it.
Every year when I am trimming my tree, I look at the ornaments that I have from people all over the world that I have never met. My favorite is a hand made ornament that was sent from a woman in Germany.

I am very excited for the exchange on this board.

I am w/ Xisland girl. I think its a great idea. In my travels I tend to pick up two things from each place I visit - a tree ornament & a fridge magnet. Decorating the tree is always so fun as I remember trips that were in the foggy corners of my mind. My glittery fleur de lis from pre-Katrina Nola is my favorite.

I just started collecting fridge magnets. I am putting them on the fridge in the garage to livin it up a little in there. I think the ornament exchange is a great one and how hard or time consuming could it be to pick one out and mail it to a forum friend?

The ornament exchange is a great idea. That's what we finally settled on at work. Things are getting so expensive, that Christmas has taken on a new meaning for alot of people.

I have given up on buying for brothers, sisters, neices, nephew, great neices, great nephews, friends, their kids...come on...that's out of hand.

Now and nice dinner together to relax and enjoy the holiday season.

Another reason I stopped giving to all of the above is I prefer to take on one family at Christmas time that have children and buy gifts for them. I also donate to a charity.

My money is better spent that way then on a sweather that I give to my neice who won't even remember what I bought her by the next Christmas.

I'm a newbie here, but I'd like to participate in an ornament exchange. I usually pick up one or two ornaments from places we visit, and I love getting them out each year. Plus, two boxes of my favorite ornaments were ruined last year when our basement flooded. I just need to know what to do, and you can count me in.
