Some friends of ours stayed there our first time on island and were happy with it. It shares a driveway with Palm Villa. The views from those two villas are why we chose Seawatch this past summer. The views are really nice from Gifft Hill.

I think you will be very happy with your decision in picking that villa. I was briefly in it but that was in like 2002 or something, and the only thing I can remember about Cloud 9 and Palm was the view from the decks of both...stunning!

Good breezes up there too :)

sm,

bride and i stayed at c9 oct 05, dec 05 and jan 07. i know from another post you have 2 couples and 3 kids so bedding should work fine. the 2 bedrooms by the pool are comfortable with sufficient separation but one is slightly larger than other and has much larger bath with outdoor shower. beware the sleeping loft is open on one side to great room and the 3rd bath for that bedroom is at foot of step stairs. there's also a daybed in a far corner but i believe there were 3 beds in loft. unlike the other similar gifft hill villas (coconuts, plumeria, palm & seawatch), c9's great room and loft have great ac if there other than winter. the loft needed in ac in oct when our granddaugthers stayed there.

except for loft all on one level and great deck with some of best views on island. you get sunsets all year round and of course you are treated to the lighting of stt each night and the lights of the departing cruise ships. after ist stay there the evening views were so addictive we wound up grilling (deluxe ducane grill) and ate under the gazebo most evening. there are 2 sets of double doors from the kitchen to the deck and we'd open her up and it's about as close to being outdoors as it gets.

while c9 is not a luxury villa, she's clean and well equipped living wise and beach wise and very comfortable. there's highspeed internet and all ac's are the remote control split systems which are so much quieter than window/throughwall units. needed in oct and only bride's bedroom for dec and jan trips.

c9 is a sun lovers villa but the location does involve fair drives to all beaches and into town. we found its fine going down to market on souht shore rd but much easier coming up centerline rd to return to villas. we got by first trip with front wheel dr car but had 4 wheeler last 2 trips and recommend that.

property manager is marcy appel and she's top notch and as a long time resident of stj, is a wonderful source of island info and she lives not too far from c9. if you talk to her tell her jerry and ann said hello and we hope to see her this winter.

sillymom - I would say it's about 10 minutes from Cruz Bay (remember we stayed two villas down at Seawatch).

Initially we thought it seemed far (compared to previos stays at Ristaba and Estate Lindholm) but it did not stop us from going into town almost every night for dinner (a few times we went to Coral Bay as well).

I like the location in the sense that it is kinda in the middle of Cruz Bay and Coral Bay.

You are gonna absolutely love those views. Check out Cat's trip reports and you can see our views from Seawatch. Seawatch is on the other side of Palm from Cloud 9. I will tell you that I spent 90% of my time at the villa on the deck staring at the view.

sm,

until you get use to drive and all sharp cutbacks, drive will seem an eternity. in actuality approx 10 min down south shore to starfish market (midway cruz bay proper and the westin) and about same on centerline to woody's) south shore drive much more scenic and in any event you will have to content with new traffic circle construction at intersection of cline and sshore rds in cruz bay next summer.

bride and i are last minute travlers and have never made reservations more than couple of weeks in advance and have never gone during the summer. thus no basis for suggestions on "when' to make july reservation. but c9 does have some great last minute discounts if you are willing to chance "no vacancy". as retired old f*rts who nonrev, we target trips over a 2 week period when there appears to be good flt availabilty out of atl and at least 3 villas we like that are available several weeks out. i then watch seat avail, weather and villas and book or pass (sometimes end up going someplace else) when we feel comfortable with all factors. on our first trip to stj in oct 04 we committed to sundance (another c9 villa) on monday for arival on tuesday. we committed about 10 days in advance in jan 07 for c9 to be sure we got her and already discounted.

last minute ground accommodations can be risky when you must commit for airfare in advance. bride refuses to sleep on beach or stay where she doesn't have a view, but with normally only 2 of us, we have a lot more lodging options than your group of 7. c9 and maybe sundance are the only villas that we have stayed in that can accommodate 7.

good luck.

We stayed in C9 over Labor Day

Post by princdata »

This marked out 9th visit to St John and our 3rd time renting Cloud 9. We last stayed in this villa 7 years ago so were interested in how well it had aged.

As other have mentioned this is not a luxury villa. The view is stunning. The view and the price are why returned. The villa now has updated (quiet) AC units which is nice.

They advertise WiFi but there is no wireless signal. A hard wired connection is available in the great room and it worked fine. Not super fast but ok.

Seven years ago the kitchen needed to be updated and has not been touched since we were there last. I know this unit is a bargain but a new refrigerator is a must. The kitchen is small so a complete upgrade would not be a huge project. Minimally new counter tops should be installed. We cook most meals so the kitchen matters to us. The dishes and cookware reminded me of a fishing cabin. Again if you don't cook no big deal.

After saying all that were we happy. Yes. The price was a steal, great location and accurate expectations make this a great option.

Enjoy!
Doug
