Rental Car Question
Rental Car Question
I apologize in advance for this newbie question. Please keep in mind that 1) I live somewhere where we don't even own a car, 2) this will be my first trip to St. John.
OK, now that that's out of the way... I know I need four wheel drive, but does it matter how big the car is?

For 2, I'd go w/ the soft top wrangler. Check the tires though. We had one with some VERY worn tired and almost slid off the mountain. I will say when we called and complained we got a replacement right away, a brand new liberty. This was the one time we let the villa agent arrange car rental.
Since then I always go with Conrad Sutton and know that the car will be in great condition.

I'm really having a hard time deciding if I should rent on St. John or St. Thomas. We will be on St. John Sat - Sat, however our flight isn't until early Sun morning, which means we are spending one night in St. Thomas. I'm beginning to think it would be more cost effective to rent from St. Thomas, so I wouldn't have to worry about taxis to/from airport (and St. Thomas hotel) and I'd have a car to explore St. Thomas the one day we are there.
We always rent on STT and use Dependable Car Rental (http://www.dependablecar.com/ ). I like the idea of putting everything in the Jeep and just go. We do our food shopping at the Food Center just outside of Red Hook too. Dependable is a good operation and I highly recommend them. Plus – we always spend a day or two on STT towards the end of our trip – so we have the Jeep to use on that island too.
