Carry-on Dive Weights

Anyone have a comment on taking my weights carry-on? I have 2x2lb lead, and I am concerned that TSA will not like me having them on hand. I just finished packing and have managed carry-on for everything, so I want to pack them in it so that Mrs B has that extra 4lbs for whatever she needs it for.

I don't know why they would object as long as they didn't put you over the weight limit, but I'm curious as to why you want to lug them with you.

We've dove all over the caribbean, and the weights (and of course tanks) never travel.

I can understand the comfort and security factor of using your own reg and BC, but lead is lead, and most places have an ample supply.

The weights are to regulate snorkel bouyency not for diving. I also have one for my video camera housing (3 lbs) I do a lot of free diving so the weights are my only non-snorkel dive equipt. Do i want to go to a dive shop just to rent lead? I dunno. I doubt it.

That makes sense.

Then I would just ensure that they don't put you over the limit, and as a final check, go to the web site for the airline you'll be traveling on - most of them have a "what is and what's not allowed" section somewhere.

We have taken our snorkel weights (lead beanbag style) both in carried-on and checked-in luggage. TSA always check our bags since the security x-ray can not see through the lead. So, if you carry-on the weights then you might want to pull the weights out and lay them separately in the bin so TSA won't end up doing a detail inspection of your carry-on bag that contains the weights. They will be able to easily inspect the weights in the bin without tearing through your bag. If you put your weights in checked luggage then you will be sure to find a TSA inspection notice in the bag when you open it, which is never a big deal for us; we never put anything of value in our checked bags.

We really like the snorkel weights for picture taking.
