There were some articles in the VIDN and stj source back when they had all the rains and the mosquitos were beginning to be a problem, but the consensus was that the VI's got off easy, with very few reported cases.

I haven't heard of anyone getting Dengue in quite a while. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but usually when someone gets Dengue everyone on the island knows about it, especially at this time of year because there is so little to talk about!

I heard the same thing about wontongirl; I think she even made a post about it.

When we were down there two years ago, we met a local at The Beach Bar that told us after Hurricane Marilyn tons of people on island got it including him. He said it was so bad, he could barely move.

I think I had it about 6 months ago - hubby doesn't think so though.

I had a temp of 104.5, bones that ached soooo bad I couldn't move, had no appetite at all. We called the clinic and they said there was nothing to do even if it was dengue but to go in if my temp reached 105  it was the worst I have felt in years - all good now though :)

I amd fairly sure that I had it. Pia, what you had is close but you did not have the hallucinations. I was told that that pretty much diagnosed it, bt who really knows.
I had thought that I had been at a full moon party on Jost

It was awful. I have never experienced anything like it. I did not get out of bed for 3 full days, not at all. I was sweating so badly that my boss came over with water and new sheets for me daily. I was ridiculously dehydrated, it was horrible.

That being said it is not that common. So, it is not something that people should worry too much about. if it is super buggy, wear bug spray.

I didn't get out of bed either for 3 days and sweating...ugh, but thank goodness no weird moving walls although experiencing a full moon party without actually going.....hummm

Apparently people are talking about dengue fever lately, because this article hit the Associated Press today and I saw it in several newspapers (I have to read them for work at my job everyday.)

Argh, this thread reminded me that I forgot to put bugspray in the box I shipped down. I don't know how I could have forgotten, I got eaten alive in June.

I got bug spray at Target last week for 64 cents a bottle. I'm thinking of picking up another one, just to be on the safe side.
