Ferries

Post by Lulu76 »

OK, I think I totally misread the ferry schedules, and I need all your help again. If I make it to our villa in one piece, it will be a miracle.

I thought that the RH ferry always left on the half-hour, but when I reread it, it sounds like it leaves on the hour starting at 8 a.m. Is that correct?

If that is correct, then if the rest our group is getting in at 3:10 p.m., by the time they get their luggage, it is probably going to make more sense to catch the CA ferry since we can get there quicker than to RH from the airport, because both will leave at 4 p.m., right?

I am trying to figure out where to tell our other person to meet us, and now I am so confused about all this ferry mumbo-jumbo.

Help!

If you land close to 3:10 and if you did carry on only you have a decent chance to make it. Otherwise the next CA - Cruz Bay ferry I believe isn't until 5:30.

So, it looks like our best hope is going to be the 5 p.m. ferry out of Red Hook then. I know several of them are planning to check luggage.

I will just tell the other girl to take the 4 p.m. out of CA if she doesn't want to wait at the airport. She will just have to wait for us somewhere.

In my experience, our villa rep told us to take the red hook ferry and call when we got on so they would know when to meet us at the STJ ferry dock. We were first timers so we did what they said, and at that time the CA ferry schedule was iffy. So, I would do what your villa rep suggests...at least this time anyway. I understand the stress of it all, but really, it will ALL work out. On your way out, you will feel like professionals!

Well, it's hard to coordinate when you have one person who is arriving earlier than everyone else and doesn't want to stay at the airport. I have no idea what to tell her because I've never been there before.

If she is comfortable going it on her own, then let her go, and pick a meeting place. I would not want to chase her down though in STT. Have her meet you on STJ, at the Beach Bar.

Agreed. Tell her to do whatever she wants, but I'd recommend a rally point on STJ. The ferry dock is the best place, since that's where the villa rep will pick you up. Cingular/ATT and Sprint cell phones seem to be the best bets.

There is a bar at the airport and I usually hang out there a bit while I wait for folks. In my experience, its best to gather at the airport before folks go haring off.

Currently (I believe) the 4pm CA is on a "hit and miss" schedule :( you never know when it might not be running - have a back up plan if it is not - the taxi drivers at the airport will know (usually  )

I think she is just going to meet me at the airport on Sunday and we'll wait for the other girls.

From what I hear, flights are always late and it takes a while to get luggage so I'm betting the time will fly by.
