Sapphire Beach Resort

Post by Patty »

I have a relative who is thinking about purchasing a time share at Sapphire Beach in the Seaview Building. I am not familiar with that area. Has anyone visited there recently. What is the neighborhood like? Restaurants? Beach? Any information that could be shared would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Patty!

We have stayed a Sapphire once. We are going back again Nov 7 - Nov 14.

Sapphire beach is gorgeous. Good snorkeling, beautiful view, the beach is clean and there are trees for shade to sit under.

As far as the condos there. If you do a search on this board or tripadvisor.com, you'll see many differing opinions. Some condos are kept it excellent condition, while others aren't. So, when renting, it's a crap shoot.

There's some management things going on there, that I really don't know alot about, but evidentally the property has seen it's problems.

Sapphire is very close to Red Hook. You could walk there, but the street has no sidewalks, so it would be pretty dangerous to try it. Red Hook is where you can get the car ferry to St. John, and also the people ferry. There are some restaurants and some stores. We like to stay at Sapphire because it's convenient.

I'm sure other people can add to this.

I stayed at Crystal Cove next door the first week of September. Here's an update:

Bar: Still closed.

Gift Shop: Closed for hurricane season (altho i saw someone selling beer just outside of the gift shop).

Beach: Fantastic, due to lack of amenities the cruise shippers are being routed to Magens and Coki.

Snorkeling: 1 mama turtle, 2 baby turtles (1 of the babies has a little bite out of his shell), 1 large ray, 1 small ray, 1 octopus, lots of conch & hermies.

Restaurants: 1 up at Sapphire Village (menu looked good but never make it up there), 1 between buildings at Sapphire (not sure of the name, but folks raved about the burgers).

Staff at Sapphire: Wonderful, wanted a studio, gave me 1 bedroom

Only GRIPE: Gadz, Budget STT should really do something about that Nas-TEEEE rep they have a Sapphire. Rude, rude, rude. No wonder she wasn't wearing a name tag!

FYI: Crystal Cove, all i can say is WOW, this place is the best kept secret on STT.

Hi SuzyQ -- oh, my, Barefooting was closed? I imagine there was so little business during the summer/hurricane months that they couldn't afford to stay open(?).

I hope they open again. I was just telling my husband that a can of Spaghetti O's from there is all I'll need for my first night supper (cos I'll be so tired and sleepy).

Wonder what the iguanas are eating with all the food sources being shut.

No worries, the iggies & little duckies are doing just fine! There was a group of folks up on the cement area (by those 2 tables west of the gift shop) that were feeding the usual cast of wildlife. Btw, did you know that iggies love red grapes? I always pick up some from the store and "go bowling for iggies". If you break the grapes in half the grapes roll crooked and they really compete for them.

Suzy....we ran into a gal at Budget at the airport and she was horrible to all of us. I wonder if it's the same person?

Sapphire Beach Time share

Post by bag »

Patty:
We are also from the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Maybe we are actually neighbors.

We own three weeks of timeshare at Sapphire. As far as I know, there are at least two different time share companies at Sapphire. One does floating weeks and the other you buy actual weeks.

As reported, some units are in great shape and others need some tender loving care. We own in building B which is right on the beach overlooking the volley ball court. One draw back, you must rent chairs on a daily basis since there is a chair consession on the beach.

I highly recommend Sapphire to everyone. Perfect location - trees for those who want shade, lots of beach, great pool, good walking around the property.

I hope the bar never reopens, this eliminates the cruise ship people who invade our world every day.

Thanks for the update on the iggies and duckies, Suzie Q, -- and about the grapes for iggies! I also know they like oatmeal cookies. And they LOVE heavily sesame-seeded semolina bread. A whole platoon of them ran hissing after me when I threw out a few crumbs to them. (In front of A wing.)

I try not to give the critters junk food. But I have seen too many iggies and duckies spit out the fruit bits I give them. Kids!
