I saw Pusser's in a local grocery store known for it's cheap liquor prices and was hoping they might have Carib but no luck.
I didn't check the price of it there but I am sure it was more expensive than on STJ.
I am honestly not a big beer drinker (other than Abita) so I can't compare Carib but I CAN tell you it tastes great coming out of the water from snorkeling. We keep an ice chest in the back seat keeping it cool while we are snorkeling. I don't bother with the lime.
Cat will tell you that Cruzan Coconut cold in that ice chest is good too

I would have to agree with the Carib, Presidente, and Red Stripe. RickG has it right about skunky beer. Most of the US beer tends to be skunky from heat, shipping, storage, etc. Cruzan is hard to beat for mixed drinks, to many varities to list.
I will probably get flamed for this one but I can't do the Virgin Island Pale Ale. Its just to fruity for me. I did drink another beer at their bar last February that I liked though, and don't let my opinion keep anyone from trying it, each there own you know.
The funny story behind my first VI Pale Ale tasting is pretty funny though. I was at Tickles at Crown Bay in St Thomas the night before leaving on charter and wanted to try it, the waitress was quite adament that it was a "girly beer", her exact words and didn't want to serve me one. Well I insisted and indeed she was right. I drank about half of it and tried to order a Carib to replace it, she refused to serve me another beer until I finished my Pale Ale, she actually stood gaurd over the table to make sure that I finished it rather than dumping it out. Leson learned for me. I do think they have changed the formula some since then as it had a ton of mango in it then and I took a drink of the draught version last Feb and it didn't seem so much like a floral arraingment.
Cheers

A cold Carib tasted mighty good on the beach! We also enjoyed the VI Pale Ale at the Tap Room (nice people, good beer, free wireless). For Rum it was Cruzan, but at home I drink Mount Gay. I also like Cruzan Single Barrel Estate but it's over $30 a bottle here. I think i saw it for under $10 on da island

I agree on the bottled VI Pale Ale we got in 2005. They have toned down the mango a bit. I had it in April at the tap room and it was more bitter and had a much better balance - more of a pale ale with a mango note. I spoke to Cheech about it and he said that they had downplayed the mango based on feedback. All of the mango beer is made at Shipyard in Maine and shipped down. The beers that they were planning for the pilot brewery sounded pretty straight up. I actually have pretty much the same system at home - 100 liter rather than 200 liter capacity.captainjay wrote:I will probably get flamed for this one but I can't do the Virgin Island Pale Ale. I'll certainly be doing some quality control at The Tap Room over Halloween! Actually, 5 of the 6 in our Halloween group are certified beer judges (bjcp.org) and they are all homebrewers.

I like the cruzan dark, light, coconut, and pineapple. I saw Cruzan 151 at Dorignacs in New Orleans over the weekend but was buying a bottle of Van Gogh vodka in an espresso flavor! YUM!!!!
Margo sent some to Elizabeth, I believe, and she said I had to try it! I need to see if I can find it anywhere here since I am going through the bottle rather quickly!

Cruzan, though a bit higher priced then it was a couple of years back, still seems to flow out ot he spigots. At Island Blues if you ask for a rum and cranberry, but "light" on the cranberry, you'll get a dirty look because the mixer is much costlier then the rum.
Funny, five years ago Carib was pretty cheap in the bars. I didn't find it that way the last time we were there.
I found Carib in a beer store up here in Bethesda,MD but it's very inconsistent. It was about $15. a 12 pack and more often then not it was skunked.
For a great Dark & Stormy while on island, get Donna at Shipwreck to make you one with Gosling Dark. Just be careful if you're driving!

When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
No kidding, we just about went blind after three Dark & Stormies at Shipwreck. It took a Skinnys burger at noon to fight off the pain. Well, I guess we shouldn't have finished that bottle of rum cream when we got home.JT wrote:For a great Dark & Stormy while on island, get Donna at Shipwreck to make you one with Gosling Dark. Don't forget the Barritt's Ginger Beer for the D&S.
