Nothintolose sent me a recipe the other day and coincidentally, I had to take a dessert to a party the next evening, so I took a chance and made a Dirt Cake! I have to tell you it was a complete success and a real hit!
This would be a GREAT recipe to make on STJ if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary or whatever! You would be able to get all the ingredients and "utensils" on-island (or at least at K-Mart on STT) and you don't have to COOK it. It's all about the refrigerator!
Here is the recipe:
DIRT CAKE
1 large pkg. Oreo cookies
1/2 stick margarine
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 1/4 cups milk
2 reg. pkgs. French Vanilla instant pudding
12 oz. container of whipped topping
Crush or blend Oreo cookies (filling included) in a plastic bag. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together margarine, cream cheese and powdered sugar. Set aside.
Mix together milk and instant pudding mix. Combine with above mixture of margarine, cream cheese and powdered sugar. Mix well and fold in whipped topping.
Using a plastic flowerpot that is 8" in diameter at the top, plug hole with plastic lid from whipped topping. Layer ingredients in pot starting with cookie crumbs, then pudding mix, cookie crumbs, then pudding mix, ending with cookie crumbs. Refrigerate overnight. Key to make it look real: Add silk/plastic flowers for decoration, add candy worms in layers, and serve with garden trowel.

This recipe was sent to me from Louisiana, I (obviously) am in California. I don't know if things are packaged differently, but I could only find 8 oz. & 16 oz. containers of cool whip - I used the 8 oz. and it was just right. The lid didn't fit in the flowerpot, so I just cut off the lip and it fit perfect. There's nothing to leak, so you don't have to worry about how well it fits.
I don't know what a "large" bag of Oreos is to you, but to me it's 1 lb. & some random ounces. It wasn't enough in my opinion. You should have at least 1/3 pkg. more than that.
After we all stuffed ourselves, the subject of what else you could do with this recipe came up. Everyone agreed that it would be good made with ice cream instead of pudding mix.

LMAO CaliforniaGirl - you're notes at the bottom are cracking me up. Sorry you had to guess on some of the measurements. I hadn't checked it out myself - just saw it when a teammate brought it to a soccer game and got the recipe.
I don't like sweets so I wouldn't actually eat it, but I know it looks really cute.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I have a recipe that is similar to the Dirt Cake but it's called a Kitty Litter Cake. Instead of using Chocolate Oreo's you use the Vanilla Oreo's and put it in a new kitty litter pan. Before you put the Oreo's on top, you put them in a bag with a couple of drops of green food coloring and also melt a few Tootsie Rolls on top. It's hysterical for parties and tastes great.

Okay this is my friend's curry shrimp and orzo recipe - when she first described it, I thought she was talking about Ouzo cuz I didn't know what orzo was

Below is the recipe:
Josie’s Shrimp Curry
1.5 pounds shrimp
Curry Powder (preferably St. John Spice’s curry seasoning)
Tomato-Basil Feta Cheese (as desired)
3 cloves garlic (minced)
Basil (as desired)
Orzo Pasta
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup green onions (chopped)
Rub the shrimp with curry powder.
Sautee shrimp in butter, garlic and basil for about 3-5 minutes (until a few start to turn pink but are not done)
Cook the whole bag of Orzo pasta
Let cook for about 6 minutes
Mix the pasta with a tablespoon of lemon juice, a cup of green onions, and the tomato-basil feta cheese
Put the shrimp/garlic/basil on top of the pasta in the foil bowl
Close the bowl
Baked it at 350 for 20 minutes

p.s. sorry I couldn't let ya'll see my groovy plates tonight - we were out of the clean ones with that design and only had plain white Corel

Mary Beth, are those olives in your mushrooms? I'm looking for a really tasty stuffed mushroom recipe, so if you could send me yours I would appreciate it.

Today we are veering from tradition and having two meals. The first is early and will be grilled cornish hens with mango salsa, and a bunch of sides. Later we are having a salumi and cheese plate with the games. I am already wishing that I could sleep in tomorrow...it's going to be a long night!
